Soccer players at an elite level are every bit as athletic as football players. There aren't a lot of 6'5 soccer players because every player on the field has to be able to run fast. There are some, just like in football, but it isn't the norm. Thinking that football players are better athletes simply because they play football is just silly. They may have more muscle mass, but that's simply because it isn't needed in a sport like soccer. Size isn't nearly as important for soccer players. In some cases, it's a detriment. However, that doesn't mean they aren't tremendous athletes. I'd compare the lateral agility, quickness, and acceleration of elite soccer players to elite football players all day. I've seen both, first hand.
Freakish athletes occur in many sports. Football, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, etc....but if there is one sport that has more than its fair share, I'd have to say its professional Basketball...and I hate basketball.
