America would dominate soccer if we didn't hate it.

I cheered with the rest of you when they won so what ever your idea was behind posting that isn't going to have the desired effect :laugh2:

you totally missed the point that even in a sport you actually do care about the your "superior athletes" have done anything but dominate in recent history 1 gold in the last 4 championships makes that pretty obvious

I am so glad we hate it. I can't change the channel fast enough when the "highlights" come on.

300+ pound men dominating soccer? Yeah, they love to run.

Soccer players at an elite level are every bit as athletic as football players. There aren't a lot of 6'5 soccer players because every player on the field has to be able to run fast. There are some, just like in football, but it isn't the norm. Thinking that football players are better athletes simply because they play football is just silly. They may have more muscle mass, but that's simply because it isn't needed in a sport like soccer. Size isn't nearly as important for soccer players. In some cases, it's a detriment. However, that doesn't mean they aren't tremendous athletes. I'd compare the lateral agility, quickness, and acceleration of elite soccer players to elite football players all day. I've seen both, first hand.

Freakish athletes occur in many sports. Football, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, etc....but if there is one sport that has more than its fair share, I'd have to say its professional Basketball...and I hate basketball.

I have to disagree. There are more freakish athletes in the NFL than other sports. An I didn't limit to just their size, but included their speed as well. To me that also includes quickness, lateral movement and agility. The NBA also has a good share. Can you imagine LeBron James in goal?

I don't agree with the original post that it would mean that the U.S. would dominate soccer. It would just mean they would do better than they currently do. Landon Donovan is not a premier athlete. Few of the U.S. national team members are even close to premier as far as athleticism. Get some of the premier athletes over the last 10 years and have them growing up playing soccer and loving soccer and the U.S. would field a much better team. They still may not win the World Cup, but they would do better than the current group of players.

Many of the guys that win player of the year in soccer are probably not the best pure athletes or even among the tops of the bunch. Skill at the top level is more important than pure athleticism like in most sports. Ronaldo(Brasil) was chubby. Ronaldino is a little guy. Henry and Ronaldo(Portugal) are premier athletes, but I think there are several NFL players that are more athletic than them.

I always laugh at those that won't admit that the best players in world are from America.

Also, when is the last time a foreign player led an NBA team to an NBA Title?

Furthermore, I think mentioning someone like Larry Allen is a bad example. If Soccer was the main sport in the US, atheletes such as those that play Cornerback, Wide Reciever, Quarterback, Baseball, Hockey and every position in Basketball would be playing it as opposed to the sports they are in and if you don't think we would be competitive with those type of athletes on a soccer field, then I don't know what to tell you.

it took you 8 years to win this time you don't dominate period, winning by 1 and 7 points and losing 3 times in the last 8 years is not domination

Where did i say the best basketball players are not from America? you're no longer dominating though the dream team in 92 and 94 dominated this year you just won and it's been a while since last time has it not?.

I wish the U.S would field a soccer team full of your "super athletes" you can breed them for birth and and it wouldn't make a difference Brazil would still whoop their ***. The reason why you don't see these beefcakes on a soccer field is that they simply don't make good soccer players.

So basketball players like Kobe Bryant are beefcakes?

The fact of the matter is if the best athletes in America all decided to play Soccer instead of more lucrative sports, combined with some of the best sports coaches in America chosing to coach soccer as opposed to more lucrative sports, we would be extremely competitive in soccer.

However, most of those athletes will always choose Basketball, Football, Hockey and Baseball because that is what Americans care about and thus more lucrative.

We will never no because Soccer just isn't as popular.

Also, you replace gold metals with money in the Olympics and I bet we start dominating again.

Like I said, I am still waiting for a foreign born basketball player to lead a team to an NBA championship. In recent memory, Dirk Nowitzki got the closests but everyone saw what the American, Dewayne Wade did in that series.

Nope - kids are playing soccer at record numbers. Fact is rest of the world has been playing soccer for literally hundreds of years and are just more skilled and ready/coached.

Town over from me has a big Potuguese population and they smoke the other local kids who candidly are bigger and better athletes.

Soccer will never be mainstream. Baseball, Football, Basketball

soccer is a much more skill position sport, it takes more skill to be an elite soccer player than it does football player (when i mean skill i mean technical skill.) Some of the elite soccer players of the world can kick a ball more accurately to a certain place than elite players like tom brady can throw to the same spot, and its harder to be more accurate with your foot because you dont have the grip control like you do with a football. But yes, soccer takes alot more technical ability, football you can get by if your very fast or big but in soccer you wouldnt stand a chance without the technical ability.

Thats a generality statement

Technique is important at the NFL level as well...
