This. We've tried that before and it really hasn't worked all that well. I don't see any reason to expect anything differently. In fact, all that would do, IMO, is provide more cover for this coaching staff. Honestly though, if you need an adviser, then why are you paying the guys you are paying to coach? That doesn't make sense to me. JMO

just like it took richard a very short time to move bjones to cb, i think a smart consultant would be able to institute change in the offense, if given jones' support.

Only way I see him leaving FAU is a power 5 team offers him a HC gig or he is an OC in the NFL.
Adviser? Doubtful.

pay him $1M per year for 30 days of time.
pay his school a couple $M per year to allow him to consult

lane kiffin is now a headcoach at a small college program.
he modernized alabama's offense and many think he is a real genius offensive mind.
he also is supposed to be good in adapting the offense based on talent.

now he is a really difficult person and probably not someone you want to bring in as a coach.
but jerry can pay him and bribe the school for a day per week as an advisor.

NO thanks on that guy.

These NFL guys have too big of ego's to let this happen.

Wasn't it Dan Reeves that Wade Phillips wanted to help Garrett and Jerry figured out a way to basically get him to not accept the job? Made him punch a time clock?

Well, as I said, we've tried it before and it's never worked. Why would it work now?

because garrett may finally have worn off his credibility after another how many years?

Think about what you are saying here. If Garrett has reached that point, then why not just fire him and replace him. Why hire a consultant?

because it is hard to replace him in the middle of the season.
this is the bandaid that also allows the team to evaluate a different offense without waiting for next year.
it is pretty clear the existing staff refuses to or is unable to make those changes.

We are not in the middle of the season, we are at the very beginning but lets say we were half way through, still I don't get the value of doing this. It hasn't worked in the past and if you are relying on it to work this time around, then why not just hire a new head coach? If you need a consultant to call plays for you, then how far are you really going to get in the season? Lets say you make the playoffs, how many teams are you going to beat? All you are really doing is worsening your draft stock by artificially propping up Garrett and his staff. Why would you want to do that? Besides, Lane Kiffin is not who I would ever want associated with this team. JMO

If you have to bring in an advisor that’s a sure sign your OC and offensive minded HC probably need to get launched to the moon.

i dont want lane kiffin as a coach. as a consultant that does not deal with the players, that is ok imo.

if you want to tank, that is fine with me.

it would be useful to figure out what offense works better with the offense before next draft/fa though.

any candidate would have to be able to deal with the strings of the puppetmaster.

Remember the Dan Reeves hire a few years back?

Dan Reeves never actually came! The last great offensive mind we had was Payton and he ran straight to the Saints

Perhaps, but lets say Garrett gets fired and you hire a new HC. There is nothing that says the new staff will continue on with whatever Kiffen or anybody else might implement. If no change is made, then I don't see Garrett and Linehan keeping anything provided by a consultant. That's just not who they are. They have their own ideas and they are not going to change them. I mean, hey, if Jerry wants to spend his money on that, it's his to spend. I just don't see it really helping but again, not my decision.

That's just my opinion.
