...saw this in the article on the Cowboy website..."His 1,642 career tackles are more than any player in the Pro Football Hall of Fame."

Wow! That's impressive!

I hope he has about 150 more tackles in the tank. :)

I'll be honest, I'm not nearly as excited as many others around here about signing Zack Thomas. But, you have to admit those are some stellar numbers.

I just wish we could have signed him about 500 tackles ago.

On the positive side I'm not sure who was the worse player amongst the starting 11 on defense-- Ayodele or Spears, but upgrading the WILB spot is a good thing. And I think Thomas will supply some toughness to a defense that has appeared gutless on a frighteningly consistent basis the last couple of years.

I just wish it was a guy that wasn't close to getting applying for social security-- plus he has health issues on top of it.

Spears didn't have a ton of tackles or sacks, but he did make more impact plays than Ayodele did --

SACKS + PRESSURES
Spears 2.0 + 2.0
Ayodele 0.0 + 1.0

TACKLES FOR LOSS
Spears 6.0 (second on team)
Ayodele 2.0

FORCED FUMBLES
Spears 3 (second on team)
Ayodele 0

PASSES DEFENDED

Spears 2
Ayodele 2

And Ayodele was on the field for 145 more snaps than Spears.

Good points.....also, I think there is a good chance Ratliff moves to DE anyway and would certainly start ahead of Spears. So both positions will be upgraded. Of course, nothing is probably more important than finding a solid 3rd CB.....maybe even a 4th.

Not sure what your point is.....but the SB champion NYFG.
Name-Age-Years in NFL
Feagles 41-20
Strahan 36-15
Toomer 33-12
Madison 33-11
Wright 32-9
Davis 32-9
McQuarters 31-10
Ruegamer 31-9
Burress 30-8
O'Hara 30-8
Robbins 30-8

So we have 8 guys over 30 and the Giants have 11. You just can't win a Super Bowl with several vets over 30:laugh1:

I like the signing, wanted to show the other vets ages and years played. I don't think anyone wants to cut Owens who is the same age.

Not sure where he ranks but i think Seau is tops with 1,809. Zach has 1,642, from what i can find.

Like sacks, the NFL didn't keep stats on TKLS until recently. A guy like Clay Mathews, who played 20 years, like Seau, could have as many tkls, but i can find his stats, Maybe someone can help?

I put Akin down as our weakest player on the team as far as starters. He was thouroughly unimpressive last year. I wish we coulda seen Carp there some last year...how much worse could it have been.

I find it interesting we sign Thomas...not going to be easy for Carp to get on the field again.

I didn't know what to think about the possibility of signing Thomas since I first heard it. There are good points and bad points. He's ours now, so we might as well see how it goes.

Thomas could be a great mentor for all our young LBs.

Did Miami use Thomas to rush the passer? I'd like to be able to send anyone in the front seven.

Me either.... but if Zack keeps Roy and others from falling over each other as they miss tackles... then it could be worth it. That happened more than a few times last season.... that Toomer TD really hurt us in playoff game... he had not business taking that pass in for a TD

Can't argue with you there, bro.
