An attacking defense, but what about stopping the run?

Well, here's the deal. If Jerry were actually smart enough to go DT in the first two rounds, we'd have to put up w/ a longer season and an annoying playoff run. You see, Jerry already has yacht reservations for January 25th, so an appearance in the NFC champ game would really annoy him. Can't do that, it would just get in the way of the vacay. So, keep on getting WRs and CBs so we can not worry about the Cowboys in the playoffs.

Both would be possible if Jerry could/would draft topnotch DTs. Instead, it's castoffs and 3rd round JAGs.

We've done that ( with good intention) with drafting first round Mazi Smith...drafting NT prospects like Quinton Bohanna,..John Ridgeway ..

- we've traded for cheap vet NTs such as Johnathan Hankins ... and we've used cheap, declining worn out vet NTs from Lindal Joseph, Jordan Phillips, Carlos Watkins, ,etc.

- But i'm not sold on just one guy, to do the job. We have to successfully operate as a unit in whole, That goes for the coach-scheme, the edge DEs and the LB unit.

- Yes, it starts up front, and in the trenches, .but this current LB does not encourage me that it will be better.
We've only one sole returning LB that its' likely to be counted upon so heavily ( Marist) Doesn't look like vet Hendricks will return, and i'm seeing Overshown likely out
another year in recovery mode.
They’ve done everything to try to improve the position, except spend in FA for top guys.

Cheap FA, high picks, low picks, and every one of them feels as if it’s painful for them as they dont value the position, and they don’t sell jerseys….and that gets them beat when it counts every time, but they insist on calling it “bad luck.”

Yeah that’s it Stephen. Keep drafting those corners high, and when you really want one, force it. That helps.

Check out Footsdaking with guest Cody Alexander (@MatchQuarters) on YouTube….”Matt Eberflus Master Plan”. CA gives a very astute description of what we can and can’t expect from Eberflus and how the personnel fits the scheme.
I think I watched some of it! Foots has come a long way

You forgetting the famous CJ Anderson playoff game? That was Rod Marinelli's defense that got torched by the Rams.
Dallas could have been allowed a 12th defender in that game and still would have lost. What did they do about it in the offseason? Nothing, because it ‘wasn’t worth the cost.’

What did they do after the GB stomping? Even less. How is a fan really supposed to have hope?

That game was what 2018? 6 or 7 years ago and we addressed it with Mazi the human turnstile. The run defense is still abysmal bordering on being a total joke.

I think the defense suffers from a lack of physicality, poor run fits and loss of outside containment. The defense is focused on rushing the passer first…there are no DL physical enough to keep the opponents’ OL off the LBs, who are underweight themselves…there are no thumpers on the DL and at LB. Add to that the CBs shy away from contact in run support.
This is a finesse defense that lacks any physicality and they are undisciplined.

And a lack of talent.

If we're going to have an attacking defense, how will we focus on stopping the run with guys trying to get to the QB? Get up the field and attack, yet there's holes being left for RB'S to do what they do best against this defense, I hope we find some kind of middle ground! Please give your thoughts!
An attacking defense can't stop the run?

Stopping the run isn't sexy. Jerry wants fast guys who can get sacks as that is a defensive primary stat that sells. This works for most offenses in the regular season but gets exposed against better OL run oriented game plans.

Perfectly said

Jerry has always been the guy who will pass up the talented lineman for a WR or CB. Which is why it shocked the world when the Cowboys picked Tyron Smith

It wasn’t just the rams playoff game in 2018.
Rod’s defenses were routinely destroyed by the better offensive coordinators in the league. It is infuriating that the cowboys wasted five seasons with the “d-line whisperer “ as defensive coordinator
