An attempt at fixing the defense draft

Parsons is a much better player than Jaylon. At least from what I have seen.

They're very similar as college players. Parsons has more speed, while Jaylon had more strength and weight. Neither can/could shed blockers. Both prefer to jump around blocks. Both prefer to sit in gaps and wait as opposed to firing through. Both are drag down tacklers without much explosion at contact. Both are athletic freaks, but neither has any coverage instincts.

Honestly, they're as close to the same player (at the same point in their careers) as you're gonna get. They're physical freak finesse backers who shy away from contact.

Again, I think Parson has a chance to be special, but I am tired of watching contact allergic linebacker play. LVE has that covered for the foreseeable future. How about someone who will run through a brick wall to get to the ball carrier? Im not selecting a guy in the top-5 who doesn't like contact. No thanks.

From what ive read and seen in Parsons he loves to tackle? Maybe I need to watch more.

ND Olineman? Guess you are too young to remember Phil Pozderik? Sam Young wasn't anything to write home about either.

I like Parsons a lot more than Jaylon and Ive watched both college players. Parsons seems like he is a better leader, and the game comes to him easier it seems.
It sounds crazy but I rewatched the Eagles game. I started imagining Parsons playing in Jaylon’s spot. The way the defense played against the Eagles, I wonder if Parsons would put us over the top. I have to see if Chido and the safeties hold up but Parsons, Tank, Aldon, and Gregory together could be frightening. I just want the front office to find a 1tech to protect him. He reminds me more of the Colts linebacker, Darius Leonard then Jaylon except he is bigger.

Forgot about Gregory Rousseau 6’7 265 pound War Daddy. We just need a top 5 pick. He is sitting out. I bet he blows away the combine.

Hello fellow Zoners.

This draft was based on the fact that we keep Dak and the offense stays the same it did before he went down. So keep that in mind.

7: R1 P7 LB Micah Parsons - Penn State
The person that is needed for this defense. The guy that can come in, start and be the leader this team has been craving on the field for I dont know how long. Parsons is as athletic as they come, isnt afraid of contact and can cover sideline to sideline.
39: R2 P7 S Jevon Holland - Oregon
We finally fix the problem that has been a problem since Darren Woodson graced the gridiron. Holland is a star at the S position and something this team has desperately needed for a long time.
71: R3 P7 OT Liam Eichenberg - Notre Dame
Backup for Tyron who can actually play. Our history with ND lineman has been good so far. I believe that continues with this pick.
98: R3 P34 S Kolby Harvell-Peel - Oklahoma State
First team All big 12 and another star at Safety. Why double down? Maybe I am just tired of seeing one safety making up for another one. With these 2 guys in the backfield. The safety position is good for the next decade.
109: R4 P7 CB Keith Taylor - Washington
This kid has future star written all over him. He was behind a couple players prior to this season but the plays I watched he jumps out at you. Another addition to our horrible secondary, and considering the mass exodus of players I am expecting in the DB room we need another talented player.
136: R4 P34 TE Matt Bushman - BYU
Finally get a TE that can get vertical and run fast. Bushman may be one of the top tight ends in the country before the season ends.

You will notice I didnt address the DT position.

I only went to the end of the 4th round and to be honest this isnt a loaded DT draft anyways. That position may have to wait until next year but this is the beginning of retooling the defense and making a run with Dak at the helm of the most potent offense in the NFL.

Let me know what you think.

If we pick outside the top 2, Parsons or Penei are the obvious choices. I doubt either will last until #7.

Watched the tape on Parsons yesterday, no way I draft him in the top 10. Very good mlb, but value standpoint, no thanks. I know you need two to tango in a trade, but you either take Sewell, a QB or try to trade back IMO.

So if we're picking 5, and Lawrence/FIelds/Sewell are gone and we don't have a trade partner...who are you taking? The best CB prospect is Farley who is probably around the 10ish spot this year. Are you taking a player about 5 spots lower on your board just bc of positional value?

If parsons is the pick im keeping Sean Lee 1 more year to have him show MP how to prepare mentally and during the week for the game.

I don't think you ever not have a trade partner, I don't believe that, but are they willing to give you what you want based on the trade that's a different question.

With that being said if I think a CB is going to be a top 15 CB in the league I am taking him over a MLB at the 5th pick.

I need to watch Farley so I speak on him specifically but yes I am reaching on a CB even I think he is going to be a a good CB if not better in the league than a LB which you can find good guys almost anywhere in the draft. CB's not so much.

So you’d take a corner who will be good over a guy that plays like Darius Leonard?

Fair enough, I think I just disagree with you on this one. I think the gap between Parsons and Farley is too big.

PFF is saying he’s arguably the best LBr they’ve graded since Kuechly...legit blue chip prospect IMO.

10/17/20: Farley has an excellent skill set with size, speed and athleticism. After starting out at wide receiver for the Hokies, Farley missed the 2017 season with a torn ACL. He had a bad year 2018, but was excellent in 2019, recording four interceptions with 12 passes broken up and 20 tackles. It was impressive that Farley played that well considering he had a serious back injury for a lot of the season.

Farley decided to sit out the 2020 season because of the pandemic, so he will enter the 2021 NFL Draft having been a 1-year wonder and flagged with durability issues. His physical tools, however, could be enough to lead to him being selected during the opening night of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Top 10 pick? Nah

Maybe depends on Combine.
If we go top 3 we need to trade back for more 1st and 2nds.

Top 10 pick? Nah

He’s basically CJ Henderson from last year. Elite athlete with great coverage ability that struggles with tackling.

Guarentee he’s drafted top 20.

I'd find a Darius Leonard in the 2nd Rd where he was selected.
I'd find a Fred Warner in the 3rd Rd
I'd find Dre Greenlaw in the 5th Rd
I'd find Lavonte David in the 2nd Rd

LB's is one of the easiest positions to find outside of the first RD in the NFL and I am not investing a top 5 pick on one.

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-rankings-the-nfls-top-25-linebackers-ahead-of-the-2020-nfl-season

Out of 25 top nonrush LB's last year only 5 based on my count were day 1 picks.
