Since we missed out on Shazier I have a gut feeling that we will move Lee to WLB to keep him out of the trenches more to protect him from injury and start Hitchens at MLB.

So unless Carter plays lights out I think our starting LBs by week 4 will be Holloman, Hitchens and Lee.

That's interesting -- boy Holloman is such a wildcard isn't he? If he's the real deal and can repeat some flashes he's shown at the end of last year the defense could actually rebound to respectability.

If Hutchens impresses and Carter doesn't I could see that. Holloman can play the middle also. Right now they have Wilber penciled in as the SLB with Holloman backing up. Carter and Durant are competing at Will.

Holloman doesn't take on blocks well enough to play the Sam. Wilber may only be a 2 down LB but he is very good at holding the point of attack. It's a different animal than the will and mike who are supposed to be free to run to the ball.

I also think that people underrate Carter especially with how he was playing at the end of the year when he came back from injury.

doesnt Hollowman have a serious neck problem ?

It was reported than he might. But then we just sort of moved on as if it were nothing to be concerned about. Not sure how that played out, actually.

he hurt his neck and it was discovered he had stenosis -narrow spinal column- like what ended irvin's career. unlike irvin holloman's was not career threatening.

I know hollowman has about 3 or so games played but why not be at Mike than an under sized rookie?

It could happen, but we really need Carter to bounce back this year.

I'm thinking maybe he's a slow learner. First year under Ryan in 3-4 he struggled. Second year he played really well, especially so after Lee went down and he was leading Defense. This year we switch to Kiffen's 4-3 with him outside on weak side, he struggled. I'm hoping he has it down enough this year and can turn his ability loose. If he comes on at WLB the way he did in his second year, his athleticism could be special in this defense.

I agree with this.

Rewatch Holloman and he did very poorly vs the run last year... Here's hoping he improves.

I think folks are prematurely burying Carter.

I agree about Lee to outside LBer..

..strong side if you ask me.

But the team continues to say Lee plays the middle..no changes.

I can see it since he calls the defensive signals.

But if he goes down again..

Holloman will get better. His coverage skills are pretty damn good.

Also, when do folks not prematurely bury a player?
