An Emotional Reason for the Jerry/Jason Delay?

I've explained this to numerous people on this board over the years. Landry never had to "right a ship". He built an expansion team from the ground up in the days when the only way to add quality players was through the draft. In the 60's, it took 4-5 good drafts to build a winner. His situation in 1960 could not be any more different than the team Garret inherited in the era of free agency.
100 percent on the money.

Absolutely emotionally related. Jerruh works off gut feelings and tingles in his anus. He loves Garrett, no other reason why this guy stuck around for 10 years.

Right! I said it in another thread. I think it’s as simple as yesterday’s meetings were basic roster evaluation/player meetings. Today is some of the same but with coaches. He’s still under contract so they are doing it by the book. I think they also have a coach ready to go

While I agree with the rest, I'm not sure about that last part.

The only coach that might be "ready to go" would be Urban Meyer. And that would mean that those talks mentioned weeks ago were putting things in place, and the comments afterwards were a clear attempt to keep a lid on it.

I agree with this 100%. And when we failed, there was never a single side failure it was a TEAM failure. We were the Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde Cowboys this year and I prayed the the good doctor team showed up. Unfortunately, Hyde came to Philly.
Unfortunately, after a decade, I just think it’s time for a change. I do think that JG will find success elsewhere which I think will be hilarious, if he isn’t made part of our FO which I still have not taken off the table.
You WANT him to have success.

Oh my Science. Ask Yankee fans if making the playoffs 3 in 10 years is “in the hunt”. There’s zero value in almost making the playoffs. We used to be Yankee-like in the NFL. Now we are the Kardashians of the NFL and thriving financially on the coattails of decades past. It’s hard for longtime fans to just quit The Star. And, Jerry knows it.
"There's zero value in almost making the playoffs" That right there is a gross misunderstanding IMHO of who our owner is. That entire belief is the exact opposite of what he considers an accomplishment. It is an accomplishment to his bottom line. Being in the hunt year after year, putting fans in the seats, selling merchandise is every reason why he considers this success. I'm not saying he is happy with not winning another SB since '95 what I'm saying is as long as there is a chance at the playoffs and people are watching then that's "apparently" good enough. Why else would he continue with a coach for this long and those stats?

I think Jerry is on the fence about Garrett. I think he also has a good reason to be. I know I am in the minority on this one.

Garrett made some bad decisions. He hasn’t been a perfect coach. He’s too robotic. But he has had the Cowboys in the hunt every year.

Maher missed field goals this year. Moore has brain farts as OC, Zeke fumbled around a critical time, Marinelli sucked as a DC, Amari has a deflection interception. If any of the foregoing were not the case we would be in the playoffs yet again.

BASED ON TERMS set by the Cowboys ownership many things are outside Garrett’s control. It may not be how it should be but that’s how it is.
I think you are on the right track here. Jones is on record how not fun it was when Parcells was here, everyone walking around on pins and needles. Jones knows that he has the best arrangement he is going to get with Garrett. Hiring “a real coach” means giving up at least some control and simply the atmosphere he likes.

It wouldn’t shock me if Garrett and Moore stick around.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry didn't offer him some kind of front office position and is giving Jason time to think about it, to see if any other team would be interested in him first, etc.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Jason, being the master Jerry manipulator he is, knows that the longer he stalls this, the more the sting from a terrible season dissipates and the more likely he is to talk Jerry into keeping him as coach.

Jason has always done his best work not anywhere near a football field, but in the back rooms working his politics and persuasion.

Completely agree. If he keeps Garrett, he is definitely happy with mediocre team results, as long as he is making money. He even admitted it when GB came back from a 24 point deficit, yes vs a Garrett coached team a few years back. He talked about what a great show we put on! Most fans don’t care about a show!! They want WINS including Super Bowl wins!!!!

A "second" meeting is an ominous sign. This is a man who fired Philips at midseason and threw out Landry with the quickness. His reticence where Garrett is concerned is the tell that he hasn't fully given up on the man...perhaps needing to be persuaded by others in the room that his delusion has devolved into full-blown dogma and detritus.

Why would a post I tried to make earlier in this thread be "awaiting moderator approval" and invisible to other posters? I've never seen that before.

Not only were the Cowboys Yankee like. The NFC East was THE Division to do it in. Giants, Eagles, Skins, and the Boys! So maybe the skins weren’t that great but they their moments... occasionally. Anyway, I agree!

Jerry is still teaching Jason how to say oil with two syllables instead of the common just one syllable.

I think so too. But why, hurry up and announce a radio show at 1:45pm on Monday earlier then you normally do it and then cancel it?

If you want to wait, wait. If you want to tell us, tell us. You’ve already jacked with our emotions enough this season, just give us this news. Please, this we’ve EARNED!
Unfortunately Jerrah feels like he doesn't have to answer to anyone including fans.

He's right tho

Jerry doesn’t need to adhere to standard time frames. If he says he wants to interview a guy any agent would hold off on final contract talks with another team until meeting with Dallas. Even if Dallas isn’t a preferred job just interviewing with them will push up contract numbers elsewhere I would think.

Garrett's contract is actually up on January 13, 2020. Jerry may simply be waiting out the full contract our of respect for Garrett.
