I'm sitting around last week and seen some highlites of MLB preseason games and noticed they play college teams in preseason. What do you think about making the same in the NFL? It would defintley make the players play hard and it would draw better ratings than normal games. I'd say the first game or two are against college teams, while the 3rd and 4th are against NFL teams. For example,

Dallas and Houston would play Texas and Texas Tech or A&M
KC would play Oklahoma
Indy would play Iowa
Philly would play Penn St
Cle would play Ohio St
49ers vs USC
Miami and Tampa vs the U
etc etc

Also, games will be at the college venue.

I know it will never happen but would anyone object if the first game was like this.

Why would the Colts play Iowa?

Haha, you think Wade would get fired then?

They don't have to play Iowa I just threw it out there.

Sad part is the money grubbing AD's in the NCAA would probably go for it to get a fat pay check. You know they could do it in good conscience before classes started and the "student athletes" wouldn't miss any classes.;)

I'm not really sure what I think of this but I definitely don't like it.

The NFL would be wise to stay away from such an idea, so as to prevent encouraging more Reggie Bush/ Dez Bryant type incidents. College is college, pro is pro and baseball sucks. You're borrowing the major league team plays the triple AAA farm team idea. I'll pass.

Because the college players would get murdered and some of the NFL players might tear their ACL's in the midst of killing a bunch of college kids.

Future tip: Don't post on drugs. Thanks.

Jeez, the worst NFL team could play the best of the NCAA All-Americans and the college kids would get absolutely killed. I think it would be painful to watch.

They used to play a game that had the NFL champions vs. team of graduated college all stars as late as the 70s. While competitve in the 30s and 40s, they turned into such one-sided affairs that they were stopped in the mid-70s.

I agree with this.

The injury risk is too great for both sides.

Actually, I just want Dallas to wear Silver Jerseys (reverse the blue and silver on the road jerseys, except keep the blue star on the sleeves). Home preseason games, wear silver pants. Road preseason games where blue pants.

If you make the final cut, you get to wear the sacred White and Navy uniforms.

I have a better idea for making pre-season more interesting; cut it down to two games. One dress rehearsal and one hoo-rah for the bubble players to make the cut.

Im talking powerhouses for one game, not Toledo. The starters will play only a series so potentially you have a Jesse Holley or Olgretree vs a Joe Hayden for most of game if Dallas played the Gators last preseason. Dunlap vs Mcquisten. Brandon Spikes. etc...Not as one sided as you would think. Remember this game isnt designed for Nfl 1st stringers to go against college 1's. Its really 2-3rd and 4th stringers. It would be a nice draft assessment too.

Because the teams don't care about making the games entertaining for fans - or even winning. They want to see what they have on the field. They want to try out some packages and see players/plays in game situations - and if they lose, so be it.

Not necessarily. The NFL Champion used to play a college All-Star team each season back in the day and while the NFL team won a vast majority of the time the college team did win a few.

The College All-Star team beat the 1962 NFL Champions Green Bay Packers in 1963:

If it wouldn't be blatant plagiarism, I'd make that my sig! I love it!
