An idea on how to "gently" rock the boat, and help our team...

I know he's a controversial figure, and I know his legal snafu last year was a distraction. But he's also a very fine talent and could serve as more than a competent replacement for either Scandrick, Jenkins or Newman like nobody else on our roster or in free agency. This is a team with real Superbowl aspirations, and Pac is a player who could really help our team in a support role; a role which would limit his media exposure, and injury willing, his vitalness to our team.

I guess the question is whether Jones is really as good as his reputation suggests. He really didn't stand out in his previous Cowboys stint. His punt return skills were below league average, although maybe better in Dallas than others. There will be other waiver wire candidates.

We tried that. I'd rather get Chris McAlister.

You know, in truth, I wouldn't mind that at all. But I highly doubt McAlister is willing to sign as a 4th corner anywhere in the league. Pacman would, unquestionably. He's utterly out of a job, and Dallas is likely his only opportunity to play again (if it exists at all). Adam would gladly take his place at the bottom of our roster and make as little noise as possible. I just can't see McAlister accepting that role. He'll wanna be no less than a number two somewhere.

I knew it wouldn't be a popular opinion. But I'm one of those who thinks Pac got a bad rap last year, and didn't really do anything to warrant another suspension. Goodell obviously had another opinion, and his is law, but I didn't agree with it. I actually suspect another stint with Pacman, particularly in this role, would be far quieter and safer than anyone expects.

But I digress, as it's almost assured not to happen...

No, I don't think he's as good as his reputation anymore. I don't think Jerry expected him to be last season, either. They knew there was gonna be some rust to knock off. But even in the abbreviated "rusty" work we got to see, the coaching staff will tell you to this day that he graded out as our best corner last year. I thought he played pretty well, considering. To bring him in now as a 4th or 5th option at cornerback... remember, in my premise he's not a starter... he not only would be a huge upgrade over Ball & Brown in our dime and quarter packages, but could step in for one of our injured starters with far less of a drop-off than we'd take if Alan Ball suddenly had to be covering the slot receiver. Or even if they slide Newman inside to the slot and move Ball outside, I'd much rather have Pacman on the corner.

You're right, his punt returns left something to be desired. But in addition to that aforementioned rust, our special teams blocking last season was, if not the, close to worst in the league. We were terrible. Devin Hester would have had a hard time gaining ground for us last year. With DeCamallis aboard and the expected improvement of the punt team, someone with Pac's vision, agility and explosiveness should eat up a lot more yardage than we saw last season under Read.

He knows the system. He HAS talent. And I just don't see the great peril of bringing him in to bolster our corner-heavy packages and/or as an insurance policy if any one of our top-3 go down for any length of time. Newman hasn't made it a whole season in a while, and he's already got a groin pull in camp. I'm hoping for the best, but Jenkins, Scandrick and Pacman as the top-3 (if Newman were to go down) sounds a lot better to me than Jenkins, Scandrick and Ball.

Eh, unlikely to happen. But I'd be all for it...

This isnt basketball where a guy in front of you means less shots or something. If Mcalister were signed to a guaranteed deal hed be more than happy.

Uuh, no.

These athletes have pride, particularly those as accomplished as McAlister. He's been one of the best corners in the league for the better part of a decade, is a Superbowl champion, a pro-bowler, etc. He's not just looking for a guaranteed contract. He's looking to start somewhere. There is no way Chris McAlister signs with Dallas as a 4th corner or less. Not even in the realm of possibility. His pride would never allow it to happen, much like Jerry Rice wouldn't accept being the 3rd or 4th receiver in Denver during his final training camp. Or like Ty Law refused to move to safety, even after it was clear he was done at corner. These athletes want money, sure. But the ones who have been "somebody" in this league are not interested in taking a paycheck just to be a nobody on the bottom of some squad's roster.

I believe your assessment is askew...

3rd and 4th corners arent burried on the roster, they see plenty of action. McCalister would be insane to sit home rather than take guaranteed money to play for the Cowboys.

I dont even know if hes being considered at all though, havent heard.

Yeah, let's bring Pacman back!

Damn...even on the show "4th And Long" some of those kids abused him!

You don't own a Scrip Club in Dallas do you?

Pacman= bad idea

By the way way does the boat have to be rocked gently. I like the Jimmy J approach of fear and intimidation. The cutting of John Roper for falling asleep in a meeting was awesome. We need more of that.

That move sucked i thought because we lost a good LB in Vinson Smith... He was a good one IMO
