Annoyed with a coworker

I'm annoyed. I work as a tech support agent for a software company. I spend time on the phone explaining to customers how to use the product. It can get pretty complex, but I'm good at my job. My goal is to help people effectively use this software that works with their alarm systems. It's pretty serious since they're working to protect their homes and businesses.

There's another agent who supports a different product and doesn't receive that many calls and hence gets bored. He's an anime fan and spends the day watching those videos. They get loud and annoying. When I'm on the phone trying to explain the intricate details of how to set up the software so that the customer gets alerted if their home or business gets invaded, I hear a character getting attacked by his enemies and so he's screaming in Japanese and explosions are happening.

Competing with noise isn't in my job description. I'm annoyed by this person who doesn't appear to take his job all that seriously. Between calls you can do something productive. You can read up in training materials so that you're as competent as possible. In fact, every time we log into our computers, a screen comes up saying we're not allowed to watch non-work-related videos. He appears to just not give a crap. He doesn't get many calls and so he wants to watch videos. I get a lot of calls, and many are very complicated, and his stupid videos make my job harder.

I don't give a crap if he goofs off on the job. That's his problem if he gets into trouble. However, if it affects my work, I have a problem. I've talked with him before, asking him to turn it down and he does. But the next day he's at it again.

I'm frustrated. I'm not out to be a dick to people, but I'm trying to do the best job possible and this keeps interfering.

Give him one of your cat toys to keep him busy.

Tell him you heard management mentioning his videos and play dumb if pressed for specifics (people) maybe. "I don't know, something something anime and I knew they were talking about you, so just wanted to give you a heads up" yada yada? Office politics suck, feels like High School.

Take a picture of him watching them and turn it into your superior. Problem solved. No more anger. No more stress.

Thats so weak. The OP just needs to man up and say something to the guy.
He shouldn't have to say anything to the guy. His coworker made his choice to jack around and not do what he is supposed to do. Him screwing off at work is affecting an employee trying to do the right thing. It is 100% the right thing to do to tell his boss and having physical evidence seals the deal. 1 of 2 things will happen. Either they let the guy go, which solves the problem. Or the guy quits doing it, which also solves the problem.

That sounds very annoying. Is it possible to get a new desk further away? If you have discussed it with him at least 3 times then your only option is to take it, subtly, to your supervisor. There are ways to have it handled by your supervisor without confrontation if your boss is willing.

If your supervisor was actually "supervising", then the cluck wouldn't have the time to watch Japanese anime. Sounds like a piss poor supervisor to me. Sounds like both would need to discover an "exit strategy" if I was their supervisor and you'd be considered for the employee of the month award !

I guess it might depend on what kind of work you do. I work in sales and unless I am selling I don't get paid. If someone is distracting me or my customer by watching anime you're G D right I'm going to stop it any way I have to. Let me guess you work hourly?
