Anonymous NFL executive says quiet part out loud about Cowboys' Dak Prescott

This Dak Prescott criticism hits very close to home.

By Jerry Trotta | 8:00 AM CDT

"He always does well enough to be in the top 10 but never gets over the hump," said an NFC executive. "He makes all the throws. He's playing the position at a high level. But something's missing. There are a lot of factors in that, from the running game, playcalling, defense, and Dallas hasn't won in a long while. But certain guys are going to elevate their team late in the game, and Dak doesn't seem to do that."

Yea ......... I somewhat agree ........ but anyone who says this and does not man up and hide behind anonymity is gutless
People speak " off the record " to the media all the time and that should remain confidential. I put it more on the people putting this out for public consumption without reference.

It's lazy and irresponsible and usually agenda driven......having said that, I agree with anonymous, lol.

He said it, something’s missing. From the running game, playcalling and defense. Something has been missing for going on 30 years. It’s going to be extremely difficult for any QB to elevate this team when you have things that are missing, especially a defense that never shows up in the playoffs.

Dak isn't scrutinized with a fine tooth comb, as the article states.
He has one issue that everyone sees repeatedly- that he chokes when the Cowboys need him to be the reason they reach greatness. Every time the Cowboys are set to taketh next step,it's Dak who disappears when they play a tough team. He cannot be the advantage that puts the Cowboys on top.
If the rest of the team is dominating, he follows suit.
But he doesn't lead when they need someone to break the ice vs good teams.
He isn't the guy who will make the difference.
That's what keeps him from being elite.

There’s Hall of Fame QBs that couldn’t get over the hump because of the team around them. If you have a QB that’s playing the position at a high level and can make all the throws and can’t get over the hump, it’s the team around them that’s the problem.

Romo elevated the team and got some guys paid.

Not this again.

The defense showed up against San Fran. TWICE!

Not this again! Explain to me how a defense “showed up” when they gave up 169 rushing yards and didn’t sack the QB once? How is a defense showing up when they’re getting dominated in the trenches? Our defense played respectively ONCE in the playoff losses we’ve had under Dak. If you’re just looking for another Dak argument, go waste someone else’s time.

He never elevated the team anymore than Dak has. Dak is going to get CeeDee paid.
Just to better understand your point, are you saying Dak will help CD get paid, or will make CD type money (top of market)? Not arguing, just asking for clarification.

The fan I responded to claimed Romo got some guys paid. He’s talking about receivers. CeeDee isn’t in line for a mega contract that could reset the WR market if he doesn’t put up the career numbers he did last season. Dak is a big reason he put up those numbers. It was Dak to CeeDee all season. He was our most targeted receiver. That should provide some clarification.
