If you go by the grades they were getting at the Combine then Charlton graded out better than Mixon, Cook and Lamp. Granted these grades are based on a formula that may not be perfect but none the less Charlton still graded out higher. As for the draft again Dallas did not reach from where Charlton was expected in the draft which again was late 1st early 2nd and yes Dallas needs also played a factor. If I have 4 guys all grading out about the same and 1 out of the 4 guys fills a need then yes it makes sense to get the guy who provides a need
I agree it is never a clear decision process. To be clear I did not want Mixon or Cook, now Foster made me pause. Lamp not so much but he has the talent.

I agree. I was just looking at how others graded out at the combines and all things equal or close to equal Charlton graded out better yet he also filled a need for Dallas.

At least according to NFL draft site Charlton actually graded out better than Barnett

That is odd, Eagles are loving Barnett with pick fourteen, they have talked about him being DROY. Being on that line with Fletcher Cox will help his development. Typical Philly flair has the forum blasting how much their Dline will dominate the boys OLine.

Not facing the likes of Tyron Smith is a big help as well. Stop and think as a Rookie DE coming in whom would you rather face Jason Peters or Tyron Smith?

Foster who had some flags on him would be one guy I think would've qualified as BPA went to San Fran a couple of picks later. Just sayin if we did not check out his injury I would be surprised. That man is a prototypical Luke Kuechly clone. At pick 28 it made me scratch my head. BPA was not used with this pick this year just BPA at need. Others who had red flags but more football talent would be Joe Mixon, Dalvin Cook, and Forest Lamp (guard) who had no off field flags. I think a case could be made for Taco being behind these guys.
It really does not matter just training camp fodder. Taco is a cowboy and I back him fully, trying to keep the expectation real for his rook year.
Even a very good draft pales in comparison to last years harvest.

LOL Foster is not a Luke Kuechley clone. He is a great run stopper. But terrible at playing the pass. He would be coming out of rotation during passing downs. Thus I think the Cowboys did well to pass on Foster.

I agree not a coverage guy like Smith, playing the middle is his forte. The conversation was about BPA and Foster qualified at pick 28. My point was he should of been a conversation for the boys before the pick. I personally did not want him and agree we passed on him correctly.
per Mike Mayock
Analysis: "He reminds me of Luke Kuechly when I watch tape. He's an immediate impact player. Sideline to sideline, he will light you up. I'm amazed that he's fallen to this point. ... San Francisco better be right on him with that shoulder."

Gulp....that many media guys think Taco is a bust. Man....:banghead::banghead::banghead:

I'd love to have jpp right now

None of these guys are saying that Taco is a bust. All this poll list is doing is telling you who has been impressive and who hasnt thus far in camp. Based on what we have heard overall, this poll seems very accurate.

Right after we drafted Charlton I went onto Youtube to watch his highlight reel. Now this was a HIGHLIGHT reel, meaning the plays were supposed to make him look good. I saw pedestrian play, not much burst, no moves, and no 'boom'. I was left scratching my head wondering why this dude was touted as a first round talent. A lot of posters here scoffed at my observation but it seems to be bearing out. I'll say what I said then: I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see it. Seems like a good kid but a very average NFL player.

I was not impressed with the pick. They clearly wanted other guys and settled on Taco. They already told us why they took him. He has all the measurables that you like. They feel they can coach him up. I project him as the potential to be a solid to very good LDE. I dont see him being a 15 sack guy at the RDE.
