Because we know the difference between good and bad football, We know when we're being fed a poor product, it was the lack of quality that killed NFLE not it's location. Last time i checked it didn't do to well in the US either yet the NFL still does, it's the same thing in Europe.
Why do people go to the London games if they don't care?
Why do TV stations here buy the insanely expensive NFL rights if there's not enough interest to make money of them?
the answer to both is people actually care, and it's not just Americans, most of the big SB parties i've been to here i've been the only American attending.
As far as SB viewers go they don't take into account how many people watch it the next day. When a game (any game, any sport) starts at 2am you're not only going to lose sleep if you stay up to watch it but you're also hoping it ends before you have to go to work so unless your team is playing you're probably not going to stay up for it. If the SB was played at 2am in the US the number of viewers tuning in would take a significant hit, if it was played in the afternoon in Europe you'd see a significant increase in viewers here.
Is the interest here as big as in the US? of course not, but there it's very big and fast growing following here.
