They got great contributions from their rookies this year, and in this game.

Aaron Ross was arguably their best CB, especially after Madison went gimpy.

Steve Smith played great in the postseason.

Kevin Boss filled in very well after Shockey went down, and his one catch last night was huge.

Jay Alford had that big sack on the last drive. Part of the rotation of that DL that played lights out.

Ahmad Bradshaw, leading rusher over Jacobs.

We really only had two rooks who got more than garbage time PT this year. We really need Ireland back. ;)

I do think that the GMen did a fantastic job, albiet it in most cases cause they had to rather than choosing to, of getting the most out of their rookies. They all seemed to step in an lend big helping hands down the stretch and that is most impressive.

Spot on. Accorsi laid the foundation, but Resse really hit on everything in the 07 draft. Yet another example of why giving up the farm for mcfadden is a mistake.

Good post pep. They definitely got contributions from places no one expected. Tyree as well.

Spencer was used in rotation and started because of Ellis' injury.... he received some playing time.

Marten and Free were picked with an eye on the future. When you take OL, its not uncommon for them to sit for a year or two and develop. It happens.

Stanback was a project player.

Folk obviously contributed and was probably our best rookie and most consistent.

Deon Anderson started a couple of games due to Hoyte's injury....then he got placed on IR

Brown and Ball....well, they were 7th round picks.

Doubt they make the roster next year.

I think I heard on NFL radio a couple of weeks ago that all of the 2007 draft picks for the Giants played in their 1st playoff game against the Bucs. That's impressive!

I think both will make the roster next year (Ball and Brown).

Ball was really starting to impress the staff as a guy with good cover skill potential. In fact, they took him of the Practice Squad because he was really coming on and they thought that Ball earned a roster spot.

And Brown has all the physical tools, he just needs more experience. And he got that this season.

To be fair, the Cowboys wanted Steve Smith in the second round. He just didn't quite make it to their pick.

I have never heard that, but I know from 06 gregg jennings was a guy the team had alot of intrest in and he went one pick ahead of us in the 2nd round of 06.

Bringing back garret and signing romo long term and the impending barber signing leads me to believe this draft will be about offensive. I just hope they make the correct picks.

But honestly, if we want to win the Super Bowl, I think we have to avail of both FA and the Draft. When we get into trouble in the Draft is typically when we're reaching for players or forced to draft a guy due to need.

Being forced to draft CBs like D Goodrich and Larrimore, for example, because of a hole in the Secondary. We may or may not have really wanted those players, but we almost had to pick them, so was the thinking. I think that was the draft where we went whole hog in the secondary trying to shore it up.

Were you here at draft time?

I was going to say the same thing. :)

I still think this past draft will go down as a good one for the Boys....Stanback, Anderson, Free will all make contributions next season and Spencer will start to become a big time player for us.

I don't think we've done too shabby, at all, in the last couple of drafts. We're getting more and more players who can contribute and I believe we'll add some more of that this season.

That is why i totally agree that things like this are EXACTLY why you don't give up the draft to get DMac.

yes why. off the top of my head I just dont remember any cowboys official saying they were set to pick smith. THe whole front office could have said it, I just dont remember.

Ross, Alford, Boss, Bradshaw, Smith... pretty far cry from Marten, Free, Stanback, Ball and Brown.....:bang2:

You forgot Zak DeOssie, all of which had some impact on the Giants success yesterday. Yeah we gotta get our draft on this year:cool:

You are including their 1st rounder, but not ours?

To be fair, the Giants were counting on Aaron Ross and Steve Smith to contribute this year. They also probably counted on Alford to fit in their DL rotation some and Bradshaw to be a 3rd down type back. Obviously, Bradshaw waaaaay exceeded their expectations.

Going into the season (and after the draft, really), we knew Free and Marten wouldn't play barring injury. They were taken for the future with the immediate time being used for development/strength training. That's not uncommon for OL. Stanback was known as a project player. Brown and Ball suck....so you may have a point there, but then again, they were 7th rounders. Odds are they were going to suck anyway.

2008 Pick #22 > Ross

Spencer > Steve Smith

Stanback = DeOssie, can't really claim either is better at this point.

Free > Koets

Folk > Boss

But, yeah, Brashaw was a great pickup in the 7th. Overall, I'd take our draft any day over theirs.

You fail to mention the fact that the likes of Bradshaw and Boss were thrown in there because of injuries to starters. It's likely that many of those guys' contributions would have been far less significant if the starters stayed healthy. For this to be a fair assessment, we would have had to have guys like Flozell, Witten, and Hamlin hit the IR.
