Why does national media act like we can't "afford" him? I doubt we pursue him. But can't the Cowboys free up $30M if need be? I think I read Fish tweet that.

As of now AP will cost 13M against the cap. I know most of you have already, but man, Schefty has lost a lot of credibility from me! He was one of main ones claiming we "can't afford" AP.

Sure. We have 8 trillion cap space to use. Anyways, Minny just said they aren't releasing him. So how are we gonna sign him?

Because they don't take the time to investigate anything any more. The perception is out there that we only had a limited amount of space under the cap. Tuesday morning I heard Shefty say it was $6M so it would be hard for us to sign Hardy. Really?

As much as I want, AD is not coming unless something strange happens. Just to spite the rest of the NFL(especially Dallas), Minnesota is not going to release him.

Besides, we don't need him as long as our line holds up and allocate the money to the defense.

However, I would not complain if Adrian found his way to Dallas as long as it doesn't cost anything more than a 3rd.

Makes it tricky now as there's no way the Vikings were ever going to cut Peterson. He's got three years left on his contract and the Vikings have structured their salary cap to fit him in until they believe he can't contribute to the team anymore and that point hasn't been reached.

It's looking increasingly likely that there's no team willing to trade for Peterson because he's unwilling to renegotiate his Contract.

Peterson has two choices going forward, play for the Vikings or hold out.

Then we can sign Ray Rice and Aaron Hernandez after the jury hangs.

If he truly wants out, he has to take things up a notch. He has to now be 'the bad guy' and publicly state that in no uncertain terms "I don't want to play in Minnesota for the Vikings anymore". He'll be vilified and burn bridges, but he'll eventually get what he wants too.

He needs to show up to the facility for workouts, risking possible injury and guarantee of his $15 million cap charge, in order to test the resolve of the Vikings to actually pay him this year. If they're willing to go through all of that, he likely is stuck.

But it would be a pretty pathetic precident to keep a player after he's let the world know that he doesn't want to be there and is essentially playing under duress.

So he is clearly on the trading block right now....what do you want the team to come out and say??? Yeah we are going to release this guy but first we are going to try and swindle a high draft pick from the Cards, Boys,....etc etc...this is nothing more than typical and expected team speak concerning a player that in all intentions will be released...we just saw the same scenerio with Andre Johnson..you had rumors swirling he would not take a pay cut, he wanted out and what did the team do...we are not releasing Andre Johnson but will trade him....

That involves signing Bryant to a long term deal, restructuring Romo and reducing Carr's salary or making him a June 1st cut.

Yes, Dallas CAN do all of this.. BUT I think they want to reduce dead money and won't restructure Romo's contract.

Then you have negotiations with Bryant to consider. (Signing Bryant early, would have helped big time)

Then the Brandon Carr options.

Maybe @AdamJT13 can shed some light on this for us.

The main issue isn't affording him cap wise. The problem is how do we acquire him, and is it worth the asking price from the Vikings?

He's not going to be cut. The Vikings do not have to trade him. They have him under contract, and if he wants to get paid, he's going to have to get over any spat from last year and suit up or hope a desperate team pays what the Vikings want for him.

Is he worth the loss of picks and cap? Could we get similar/good enough production from a running back from the top 3 rounds, and have the benefit of that cap savings?
Personally, I think the FO doesn't consider AP till after the draft.

IMO, Dallas only looks at him if he's cut and I agree, someone is going to offer at least something for him.

In the end I would at least throw a seventh rounder in there. Then restructure his contract.

He's been playing hardball... Now it's their turn

I'm interested in your opinion.

What do you think the Vikings would do if Peterson came out publicly and stated "I no longer feel comfortable in Minnesota and wish to continue my career elsewhere."?

Would they force a player to stay when he's publicly stated that he doesn't want to be there?

Dallas can for sure afford him, but just like with Murray, the question is do they want to continue to kill the cap for years to come.
I think the goal is to clean up the cap fiasco so they have all options available long term

Why is this still even being debated....AP has more threads than what we would have if we won the SB....
We do not need AP....we have McFadden, the best OL, and will be better and cheaper drafting a RB....

We can have AD if the Vikings are willing to trade him and we restructure some contracts. The question is do we want to pull the trigger and create space. I would not want to do it because of losing draft picks and pushing money in further cap years.
