Chargers McNeill struggling to protect Rivers
There are not too many people who have watched Chargers games this season and not wondered, "What the heck is the matter with Marcus McNeill?" First off, the Chargers' left tackle is not having as bad a year as many think. But he is not the Pro Bowl phenom he was in his rookie season. "He's struggling," General Manager A.J. Smith said this week. "But not each and every game, and not the entire game. But he's been having trouble in a couple games with outstanding pass rushers." By the count of STATS Inc., McNeill has allowed 9½ sacks this season compared to five in 2006. By the Chargers' count, McNeill allowed two sacks in 2006 and six this season. -- San Diego Union-Tribune

remember how many posters here gave us grief for passing up on McNeill?

McNeil would be a backup here just like Fasano or Carpenter.

Edit: Actually, since Fasano plays about 1/2 of our offensive snaps, he's been much more valuable to us than McNeil would have.

fasano already is worth his pick. Carp- well, give him one more year.

We take McNeil. He is behind Colombo and Adams. Carpenter atleast plays on special teams.

McNeil just might be havin a sophomore slump. But regardless of that there will always be that worry about his neck condition- which could force him to quit playing at any time. Or let him play 10 more years. For that reason ALONE I would have been against drafting him.

I'd take a well sunned dog turd over Carpenter at this point. Heck, I might even take Jason Campbell!

I second that....he is playing a premier position and suits up every game. If he is struggling what the heck is Fasano doing?

you have had something personal against Fasano from day one- give it up.
He happens to be second string to the best player in the game at his position. Not something you can say about McNeil- who did he beat out?

What a joke. Current struggles notwithstanding, all 32 GMs would take him over any the guys we took instead. That's a fact, jack.

Yeah. Im so glad we dont have this bum on our roster. Cant even shut down every pro bowl pass rusher he faces on every down. What a bust.

Yes, i was being sarcastic. Its hilarious how some of the homers in here would take a huge bust like Carpenter over a proven left tackle who was arguably the best player at his position last year. To say that you would take even Fasano over McNeill is the dumbest thing i have heard in a while. You would probably take Fasano over Tom Brady as well.

This McNeill kid plays the best pass rushers in the NFL on a weekly basis. Of course he will get beat at times.

No, it isn't. I know at least one who would have taken Fasano and Carpenter over McNeil.

Although, it might have been nice seeing McNeil back up Flo for the next three years while everyone bemoaned us not taking some other interesting player.

You're right. I overlooked that braying ******* in Dallas. Make that 31 out of 32.

It's a shock we're 12-1, considering how utterly stupid our front office is. Clearly they'd be better off with you running the show.

I'm sure that won't stop the ignorants from flapping their agenda driven gums though.

Well, I mean then you add on all the teams who wouldn't have taken him because they have star young LTs - or the Eagles and Jets, who both took tackles higher than McNeil in the draft - and you come to the conclusion that you're exaggerating, or there are quite a few braying *******s GMing in the NFL.
