Tiki Barber is a local radio host. He made a comment a couple of months ago, not about Parker specifically, but about DCs in general…..

“In your first year as a coordinator, you have no idea what you’re doing.”

You tend to want to believe guys like him, but I’m not sure it still applies. CP has been so close to the action lately, and doesn’t appear to have a problem asserting himself. I see no reason why they can’t hit the ground running, unless these players are all serious busts.

Usually a first year coordinator doesn’t have the bodies, and that’s the reason. If he does, he will be fine. If he doesn’t, he won’t be.

Goes back to the front office and why I wouldnt argue with anyone who is skeptical. Just be careful not to miss the ride.

• Being a great DC takes some time to learn how to adjust the scheme to the ways offenses adjust and attack your scheme.

None of the above is a knock on Parker. I’m thrilled he’s here. I believe he will be successful. But I also believe that most great NFL coaches all have a learning curve. And CP will too.

I hope Cowboys fans can show CP some patience. Like100% of all new DCs, he’s going to have some learning curve moments where mistakes will be made. But it’s a long season and I believe in his talent, toughness and ability to become what he was hired to be.

With the turnover of the roster in defensive talent, just comparing what Flus had to work with last year compared to what Parker's got this year, then it is not unreasonable whatsoever to expect an improvement over last year's group. Extreme defensive talent upgrades alone gets you that distinction.

Now, with that said, how improved they can be with this new talent over the course of a full year is where the learning curve and patience comes into play.

And IF those newly acquired FAs and draftees don't turn out to be quite as good as everyone expected then that reality will have to be included in this patient learning curve as well.

They'll be improved based on talent alone before any coaching takes place. How much Parker can get out of every last defensive player is where the patience comes in.
You're only as strong as your weakest link and hopefully that weak link can be properly compensated for.

I think what’s harder than any of us could realize is how hard it is to stop NFL offenses consistently over a season. For several reasons:

• The rules strongly favor the offensive side of the ball, so any team having a “dominant” defense is just inherently hard.
• At some point in a season, film will show that a good defense does some things very well and some things not. Really good OCs will find the weaknesses.
• It’s up to the DC to be able to adjust to the adjustments made against them.
• How fast will CP be able to learn and adjust?

We will see starting in September.

After the debacle of the past two seasons merely lining up correctly and playing fundamental defense will be a site for sore eyes for me!

on paper, the talent is there. the potential is there.

it's up to Parker to get them to live up to. We'll see. Saw some good last week, saw some bad.
