Another Jordan Shipley Thread...

Fair points but the man doesnt deserve this much attention. Hes a 4th/5th round prospect and is getting way more attention than the 2nd rounders and some 1st rounders
hes a 3rd/4th and he gets this much attention because some people just hate texas players while other on this board, being from texas and being a fan of another team in texas, love texas players, while some actually but bias aside and see a player that will come in year one and be in the position he will stay in and wont really need to develope like 2nd round guys and will most likely out produce most WR selected before him because he can be PR/KR/and slot and hold feild goals

There a lot of exciting mid round WR's in the draft who no one knows, most of which arent 26 and arent lets say speed challenged.

If people were annoyed b/c hes from Texas how come weve got a chub for Earl Thomas?

The op knew it was Shipley overkill hence the title

yeah but most of those are development projects, they may pan out they may not, but i think you know what you got with shipley he will come in day one work his butt off and you will plug him in at slot and watch him convert 3rd down after third down. like you said he is 26, he has peaked.

texas defenders have a little more clout than texas offense.

the one major occurrence i noticed is on most of his catches how he either a. was wide open b. maneuvered his way into being wide open. Any Cowboy fan knows how often Romo gets pushed out of the pocket and is scrambling, so Shipleys ability to obtain space is invaluable. a lot of ignorant college bias is rather evident on this thread. i could careless what college anyone from the dallas cowboys attended. of more importance is the skill set/character/fit for the boys. i truly believe we will shop crayton around and try and pick up shipley in the third. i think it is a great move for years to come.

Shipley is the real deal...He would be a GREAT value if we could actually land him in the third round. I hope we make it happen!

You changed your mind based on highlight videos?

I know, what a tool right? he should be basing it on skin color and 2 40 times like the rest of us. Judging football players on how they play football is just stupid :lmao2:

90% of the folks here use highlight films and magazine/internet to form their opinions. -

I am a huge Longhorn fan, so I try to stay out of the Shipley debate. He is a guy who will be a fan favorite wherever he goes. What stood out to me about Shipley is that he seemed to know how to get open no matter what the defense was doing to stop him. He had such a great chemistry with Colt that he would catch the ball even when he was well-covered. I'm not sure he will have the same success in the NFL, but he will be some QB's security blanket. And those who doubt his return skills are in for a rude awakening.

Whoever drafts Colt should do everything in their power to snag Shipley. Those two as a pair are much better than the sum of their parts.

I don't like the Loghorns and usually cheer for the team playing them, but since I lived in Texas during his tenure I had to watch a fair amount of their games. That guy always got open no matter who the other team had playing on him. Always.

I don't know that I would want him on this team because I don't know that he would be all that much better than Crayton, but the guy can play football and will be a good player in the NFL.

I like Shipley, he wants to win and will do everything he can to help the team win. If he were drafted I wouldn't mind the pick, he could certainly do a lot of things for us. Does that mean Ogletree takes over for Roy if Roy doesn't pan out? I like Carlton Mitchell out of USF but he's pretty raw, I just like size/speed in WR's so they can beat man and also go over top, but Mitchell's routes aren't that great and he'd take at least a year to groom. By drafting Shipley you're basically making OT the go to man if Roy is released after the season, does he show that kind of potential? We've seen flashes of the Tree but I doubt anyone really knows of what he's capable. He's 6 foot and supposedly has a problem staying motivated. I like the prospect of something like Miles/Mitchell out wide and Ogletree in the slot for matchup purposes in the future, but that'd be IF they pan out. You pretty much know what you're getting with Shipley, I just can't say for sure if he'd be that much of an upgrade in the slot over what we have now.

Unless irrationality is a problem, there is none.

irrationality? Whats so irrational? I guess all the scouts, analysts, coaches, and members on here are idiots for altering there opinions based on tape huh? Actually, you're right. The fact that he had 2 slow 40 times is all I need to know to base my opinion. He's garbage. Like someone said, juding players on how they play the game is just stupid.

Huh?

Strange two names to pick out. You talking about the Giants Steve Smith, I hope?

And I still don't get why you'd change your opinion after seeing youtube vids. Did you not ever see him play live?

And catch... Video card works fine. ;)

Strange...why? they just happen to be two of the best slot receivers in the NFL and the knock on both of them was there speed.

Why wouldn't I change my mind? I've only seen him play once on TV, and that was the National Championship. And the whole time I was going by on the general consensus on the board that he was slow, garbage etc. Until I saw the vids...

I just finished reading a write up by Mel Kpipper about how the Holmes rade impacts the draft for the Steelers, and the similarities between our two teams is uncanny! I saw almost every popular player we have mentioned thus far talked about as potential targets fro the Steelers, including Shipley in the 3rd round. This presents a problem for us as the Steelers pick at #82 and we pick at #90, so there is a good possibility that they may steal him away.

Anyway, just read the below excerpt and look at the similarities...you could basically switch Pittsburgh and Steelers for Dallas and Cowboys and the article wouldn't skip a beat...

ArchiveFor the Steelers: Pittsburgh holds the No. 18 pick, which I think is too low to see a player like Dez Bryant fall but too high to draft another wide receiver from this group. But that should just make the best decision for this team even easier. The Steelers must address their interior line in Round 1. I think getting a player such as Maurkice Pouncey or even Mike Iupati would be a great move for the Steelers, who should be looking to return to their run-heavy ways anyway. As much as fans think the Steelers need a wide receiver, that's also a symptom of folks thinking that Pittsburgh has thrown so often during the past two years because it should, but that's not the case. The team is better when it piles up chunks in the running game and allows quarterback Ben Roethlisberger the time and short-yardage situations that allow him to carve up opposing defenses.

That said, the Steelers still need another target. And I say they should look to Round 3.

Last year, Pittsburgh got Mike Wallace in the third round, and he was a breakout player. This year, the draft is deep in wide receivers if not loaded at the top, and the Steelers could choose from a group that includes Jordan Shipley from Texas, Emmanuel Sanders from SMU or Andre Roberts from the Citadel. You could even see a talent like Dezmon Briscoe sitting there in Round 3.
