we all knew he did but ...

Lions WR Roy Williams reportedly "wants to play in Dallas."

"I don’t want to dismiss that we could look at a veteran situation, and we could look at a veteran situation before the draft," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. The Lions have repeatedly said Williams isn't available, but a deal still makes some sense at the right price because he's in a contract year.

I still don't understand why you would pay a first round pick for a guy the LIONS won't be able to hold onto after this season. That's a steep price to pay.

Bro, if they trade for RW it will be under a restructured and extended contract. Come on now, you don't really think we'd trade a 1st rounder for a one year player do you?

:bang2:

Oops I misread your post. The "they" you were making reference to was obviously the Lions. I think Jerry might just want to avoid the whole FA bidding war (which WILL get extremely expensive). Besides Jerry is looking at THIS year to win it all.

BTW here's another headbang for my own stupidity.

Because if someone else does, you're waiting for the price to lower bites you in the buns.

I'm not ********. What I meant was why wouldn't you wait until Roy's contract ends next year. I didn't mean for it to sound as though I thought we would sign him to a one year deal. I know if we got him it would be restructured and extended.

Hos, I definitely see what you mean. My question is this then: Is there any way we could get him w/o giving up a 1st rounder?

Only if we throw in players. Other teams will expect us to be picking late. That means a 2nd round pick is a low one at best.

Wasn't that the rumor going around that it would be a 2nd rounder and a player? That would be a steal and a genius move by Jerry if he could pull it off.

Because you would renegotiate his contract before you traded for him. It is done all the time. You make a trade for a player contingent on his agreeing to a new contract.

It's cool. I should have worded it better. It seems Rockytop thought the same thing.

Hell no. I'm too old to do anything but make them suck at one position. Then I'd get waived and be all bitter...

Oh come on now, Hos. You'd have to think there's room for a back up kicker. And don't lose sight of that water boy dream either, brother.:D

I still dont understand why anyone would believe the Lions couldn't hold on to R. Williams.

The Lions have a significant investment in Roy. If they dont get an offer they like they will keep him, even if that means franchising him after the 2008 season.

+1 Back in the day I used to run a 4.4 fourty. I have aged since then and the g/f is a great cook so I have put on a few pounds so I doubt I could run a 6.4 today.

I don't see that happening. We know they won't keep him because of the contracts they've given out to the other WR's like Johnson. Picking WR's every first round is coming back to bite them in the butt.
