Another "tipping" controversy

Do you tip the bartender?

no. they're getting paid the same money as a nursing auxiliary. i'm not going to give them anything extra for taking 30 seconds to pour me a pint which is what they're there to do. if i'm in the same bar all evening then i'll usually leave something when i'm getting the last round or if i'm getting a particularly big round then i'll leave a tip.
on the other side of it when i'm working behind a bar i don't expect a tip for pouring someone a drink but if i'm giving table service all night then i would expect the customer to leave a tip.

Fair enough. Have you ever seen the movie Resevoir Dogs?

Be honest guys, you are all more likely to give a nice tip to a good looking waittress than you are a waiter

its one of those films i've shamefully never seen, i've seen bits of it but for some reason never sat and watched it from start to finish. i take it i missed a really obvious joke?

sadly yeah this is true, working on a bar with an attractive girl always results in more money than with another guy. (most places i've worked pool their tips behind the bar)

They would probably send some dude that looks like BP. :laugh1:

I would make great tips...that or there would be some customers with bruises on them. :p:

I will be honest. How much I tip it has nothing to do with what the waitress looks like or if it's a waitress or waiter.

I usually tip delivery drivers $2 base delivery tip, then $1 per carry item they bring. (carry item can be a bag full of stuff, or say a pizza box) At $5, I discount the base delivery tip by $1.

So, if I order 2 pizzas: $2 + $1 + $1 = $4.

On Mothers Day, we order 2 large pizzas, a 24 piece buffalo wing, a 5 piece chicken tenders and garlic knots. Six items, I tipped $7 on that order.

Do you put money in that plastic tip container at Starbucks?

Considering I order straight coffee, I do not. (no foo foo type drinks) Although, I do give a great tips to them at Christmas if they know me by name and do not ask for my order. (only confirm it)

At my current Starbucks, there are about four of them that do this. The other six that I see working there will miss out next Christmas. ;)

Probably down to 10% unless there was belly hair showing :laugh2:

I usually tip around 30 to 35% unless they suck.

Wow, 35% tip on an average? You are robbing yourself blind. Something dramatic better have happened before I would tip on that level. At a restraunt my base tip is 20%, for great service and food I will go as high as 25%. I can only recall once maybe twice I tipped better than that, when it wasn't a special occasion. Like someones birthday and the staff went out of their way to make it special. If they go out of their way, I will make it worth it for them.

John Lithgow is a riot. I always thought of him as a serious actor until this show came on. He is great.
