I believe a lot of Pizza places hardly reimburse for delivery drivers gas. I could be wrong.

When I was delivering pizza, there were 2 ways we got paid. First they paid us XX per delivery (can't remember how much, but I feel like it was 40-50 cents) and then later, they paid us by the mile.

The cost is supposed to cover gas and wear and tear on your car.

People that deliver pizza full time can really go through cars. Where I was delivered (Yonkers, NY) the roads were terrible and some guys would buy a piece of crap car just to use for work.

I usually tip a flat 15% regardless of the service's source, unless it's a matter of tipping for poor service. Then the tip amount starts to plummet.

I will be honest. How much I tip it has nothing to do with what the waitress looks like or if it's a waitress or waiter.

why should you tip? No one tips us for our jobs?

I do but not because I agree with it but just because everyone does.

My old lady tends to be psycho when it comes to tipping though, gives far more than me and she is usually the one who pays for the pizza/chinese food etc when it's delivered.

wow i dont know how i missed this thread. i have actually been both a server and pizza delivery man.

i disagree with the complainer that he should get a percentage but honestly a lot of people believe that the delivery guy just brings the pizza when it is not the case most of the time(in my experience) most of the time if i delivered you a pizza i took your order and i made your food too. also people dont realize that if a certain percentage of your income comes from tips your employer does not have to pay you federal minimum wage. minimum wage was 5.15 when i delivered and i made 4.25 an hour and 1.00 per delivery(the delivery fee) i assume the delivery fee has gone up with the price of gas.

i think the best way is to start with the price of gas and the estimated delivery time(do not include the delivery fee in the tip now thyou know it goes to him) if he gets there at the bottom end of the delivery time and the food is hot then give him the full tip if it gets there quicker give a little more.

i will say this, if you tip good they will start to remember you tip good, if you tip bad you get remembered quicker. pizza hut always quotes me 35-50 minutes, if a few certain drivers are working we get our pizza in under 20
