Another RB we are going to need

I dont see any way we can go into the season with these 3 RB's. McFadden and Dunbar are simply too injury prone to count on. If Randle were to get hurt, we would be in big trouble. And I am not sure I would give Randle more than 250 carries anyway.

All signs point to the Cowboys buying time until cut downs. When a solid veteran RB can be scooped up.

A intelligent person cannot make that distinction until seeing them in preseason games.

I really, really hope your right. At the moment, my gut tells me the Cowboys struggle early on in the season as they relentlessly try to run the ball...only, it will not be as effective as it needs to be. Randle may be able to get more yards than Murray in certain clean situations, but Murray was good for at least a yard when he was met behind the line. Those runs are critical.

The defense will be hamstringed to a certain degree by the lack of Hardy and McClain. Granted, the Cowboys have good talent behind these guys, but there will still be a drop-off in talent.

I think this Cowboys team will find a way as the season progresses, but we may not see domination like the whole of 2014 until towards the end of the season, when they find their stride.

Have you watched this offensive line and seen the holes they open up? Apparently not.

The solid veterans are all ready scooped up. Any veteran who gets cut from here on out will be cut because he can't get the job done.

All the more reason I think we need more bodies.

The longer these backs sit put that might help us..

the greater the chance they pull hammies or whatever once they are asked to start playing.

So get them in now..slowly work them in and get them ready.

Ray Rice to me is our answer. Motivated and capable and from a Ravens offense similar to ours.

Oh..and he blocks,too.

Worth the risk.

If he doesn't look ready, let him go in the last cuts.

But just don't just keep re- arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

The water rises.

Basically what the jets did last year I think all three of their backs got nicked up so the leaned on the other 2 until the third guy healed up.

I think ultimately, it isn't going to be that bad. Randle seems to have the running part down at least and we may find that we are more explosive on offense overall. I would, however, like to see us add a competent strong power back.

Say what you want about Murray, but he brought a mean, physical presence to our offense. Much like Lynch for the Seahawks. I think having that kind of ability to impose your will on short yardage plays and also be able to pound and wear down a front seven both from the line and from your running back is a great tool.

An offense without that bruiser in the rotation isn't quite as dynamic, isn't quite as well rounded and intimidating.

I'm hoping, if there is an injury, they consider bringing in a big back. I don't understand why they can't have a bigger back who can run, catch the ball and run routes effectively.

I have a collection of old games and I was watching Newhouse and Moose play. Newhouse was a feature back some but also lined up in the backfield with Tony a lot. In fact Tony blocking some for him although mostly outside runs. Most here remember Moose. Anderson was a reasonably effective blocker who ran and caught as well. Perkins the same although a much better player than Anderson when we got him.

So it can be done and gives you four backs. There should be some use of a decent FBack as well although we haven't had a good one.

Here we go again. First it was 'we have to sign a vet in FA' then it was 'we have to draft a RB early' finally 'we have to trade for AP' and so I guess it's only natural we get to this point.

BTW what are all the signs you are talking about. I must have missed them.

The thing to me is..

running by committee has NEVER worked.

Not under Parcells with all the RBs he paraded thru..

Not under Phillips and all the RBs he paraded through.

This is not IMO going to work either.

Declaring our OL to be able to make any gang of 2nd and 3rd string RB adequate to win titles is just pedantic.

These guys are not Murray and collectively they are not going to take us anywhere...IMO.

If this franchise is content to waste another year of Romo's window of opportunity with another 8-8 or 10-6 season..

so be it. Don't fix the RB situation.

But if it's urgent this team win now.

stop messing around and go get some guys that want to carry the rock and want to run behind an All Pro line and win.

Stop all the playing of the band like the sinking Titanic.

All is not well.

Just my gut check feeling.

This isn't true. Dorsett was part of a committee when we won Superbowls in the 70's

prediction:

May/June 2016: a RB from this year's Dallas team will be looking for an extension after the stats put up in the 2015 campaign

(not sure who yet)

Sorry, that does not fill me with confidence he can handle being in a position to be a key player in a Super Bowl contender.

It certainly tells me he is a step away from struggling to chew bubble gum and walk at the same time.

Like I said so far it seems he has learned, grown and moved on from that. It certainly doesn't mean he can't carry a football for a living. Clearly the Cowboys believe in him even if you don't.

McFadden is bigger than average , but I hear what you're saying

P
If healthy he will share the load with Randle. The hotter RB that day will get more carries.
probably this.
I assume Randle starts but if DMC looks good is could easily be the hot hand thing

Not necessarily. $$$ can definitely play a factor in a veteran rb getting released. Teams goes with the cheaper, younger, version, etc...

I think the solid (or semi-solid) vets that may cost slightly more are not scooped up....though we did take McFadden.
But yes, Spiller was taken by the Saints. Not sure he fit for the price.
Johnson, Jackson, Rice, and some that may get dropped for deeper RB groups (Chicago for ex) will be available

I think this outcome is probable. Although I do see hope in the RBBC, or even Randle stepping up, I would've rather not have had to, rely on either of those two options....

I think we will go to Romo more, Dez, Witten, Bease, Williams....

2014 Patriots (Gray, Vereen, Ridley, Blount) all about even. I would take at least 2 of those backs over what we have now. Brady, Belicheck, Revis and a tradition of winning.

2011 Giants (Bradshaw 659, Jacobs 571) Jacobs was a bruiser. That D was pretty good too.
2010 Packers (Jackson, Starks, Kuhn) Rodgers.
2009 Saints (Thomas 793, Bell 654) That was all Brees....
2008 Steelers (Parker 710, Moore 550) Strong D. big backs, Roth. Ill give you that one.
2007 Giants (Jacobs 1009, Ward 605) Again, Jacobs is better then any back we have now when he was in is prime. That team had a good DL too.
2006 Colts Addai 1081, Rhodes 647) Manning.

We won last year because we had a dominant running game. It was the reason we were able to win games..... Romo is great, but I would rather not go back to the Passing game being the Identity. And, do we now have a Defense that can stuff people on a regular basis? A Defense that can take over games???? I dont know ......I dont know...
