Say they do put him at WDE behind Ware, is this a move only to get us thru this year ? What is Selvie's hieght/wieght - as I thought it was said his best position would eventually be at WDE. With Crawford coming back next year - dude is huge ! Who will back him up/fight for the starting spot ?

Selvie is 6-4, 270. That's very similar to both of the the Strong Side DEs that Marinelli had in Chicago his last year there.

The SDE in this defense has ranged from Robert Mathis at 6-2, 245 to Red Bryant at 6-4, 323. I think the norm would be around 270 to 275.

Tyrone Crawford was 6-4, 275 when drafted, but got up to about 290 his 1st season as a 3-4 DE. Some people believe that his best position might be the 3-Tech DT. Hatcher was quoted in the off-season saying the Crawford would probably take his job in 2014.

Not saying he's not a DE, but measurables can be deceiving. Wilson may physically resemble a young Demarcus Ware but his game more resembles Karlos Dansby. If you watch his highlights, he makes the majority of his plays from 2 point stance.

Dansby is a very good rusher for a LB but not as effective as full time DE. Julian Peterson was the same.

Good points. It's difficult to project his pass rush abilities as a full time DE; however, based on everything I could find about him, he apparently is not a good option as a coverage LB.

I'm not sure why the Weak-Side DE can't rush from a 2 point stance in this defense. They hardly ever play run defense. The WDE is usually either crashing down the line or rushing wide. I don't see them attempt to set a hard edge in the run game very often.

I thought Hatcher said that about Ben Bass?

IIRC, he said Bass would play him off the roster, and Crawford was going to be a 'great player' in this league. But he complimented both of them.

On that note, Ware hasn't been as effective moving from an OLB to DE, either.

Ware has been injured so that's not an apples to apples comparison. Dansby was never the rusher that Ware has been, few are.
