One objective this offseason is to get a RB to backup/spell Zeke.
We won't find someone just like Zeke but they need to have a true RB to provide him some relief.
Rod Smith isn't that guy.
RB's can be found mid to late rounds so we can have a cheap (Monetarily) substitute.

I hate to say it cause he is currently their best player, but I don't think Zeke is enough to get the Cowboys to the promised land and they need to seriously consider not investing the kind of money it will take to keep him and look at getting more weapons and maybe some OL help including a good tandem of RBs.

I agree also. Zeke has taken a beating this year. And I love the hell out of the kid, but no one should expect this kid to continue to play like this year in and year out. I would certainly be looking to get him some help. Problem is, Zeke seems to run better the more he runs, so you better find somebody SPECIAL to replace his production and touches! Can you ??? Can the front office??

Zeke is such a physical runner that it would be stupid to not have a quality guy behind him.

I know some people get upset if he is taken off the field but regardless we are so RB dependent that we need a guy behind him if for nothing else but insurance.

The question is who
I think our 2nd rnd pick is too high since we don’t have a first
Need a guy who can block, catch and be a threat between the tackles

We can find a real quality guy somewhere in the draft. It doesn't have to be with the first pick.

TJ Yeldon would be at the top of my list. For a pure backup, he's about as good as you're going to get, and you can give him 20-something touches if Zeke goes down.

He's not as explosive as you might like, but he is rock solid. There's value in that for a #2

Agreed. I think it's important that we get somebody with a complementary skillset. If they're too much like Zeke, it's hard to take him off the field.

We need a Cohen or Sproles type. Zeke really impressed me as a receiver, but, we're better off saving him for the running game IMO.

The draft is the way to go
We got a comp 4th
I think it’s important enough to spend a 3rd on if needed

I still like the idea of a speedy gadget guy. ~10 touches a game. Line up in the slot. Get 5/6 carries. Return kicks. Sproles-like. Don't say Austin either - he is fast but can't play.

I actually agree with this. If you watch what the Rams did.. They how a very powerful Marion Barber type player. That combo killed us.

Most I could see would be a back like Holyfield out of Georgia who would likely be a mid to late round pick.

I agree. We need another reliable RB. I think we need someone "different" than Zeke. Kinda like how the Rams used an all-purpose back in Gurley along with a 675 pound CJ Anderson. We need to be able to keep teams on their toes.

Then what would happen with Rod Smith? I thought him and Jaylon were a "package deal". Could swear I remember Jerry saying that.

"675 pound..." That made me laugh.

I was watching Anderson gash the Cowboys and wondering (loudly) if he was the fattest non-lineman I have aver seen. Didn't matter because he killed them.

Here’s a crazy idea: give Leveon his money. Run a full-on 2 headed backfield, 21 formation. Zeke is still relatively cheap for what he brings to the team. Split Leveon out wide sometimes like Darren Sproles, or keep having him run swing routes out of the backfield like Kamara.

Don’t resign Zeke when he’s up, or keep him for 1 more franchise tag year/trade him and develop a young heir behind Leveon. That should give you about 2-3 years of the greatest be duo in NFL history in their primes, you could run 80% of your run/pass plays through your running backs and neither will get overworked.

RB David Montgomery from Iowa State may be available yet in the 3rd round. Grab him if so. He can block, and catch the ball out of the backfield.

Is CJ Anderson available? He appears to already own some Dallas real estate.

He’s probably going to miss 6 games next year, but Kareem Hunt needs a job....
