Another Year Of Absolutely No Depth

we'll see.

QB...behind Dak is crap.
RB..i like whats behind zeke.
WR...5 deep...maybe 6....like it.
TE...schultz and a healthty mckeon give us good depth there.
OT...i think steele, knight and nsheke give us better depth than some think.
OG...martin williams mcgovern farnoik...i like whats there....the cornhusker has looked good.
C...behind biadasz....makes me nervous.

DE...like it.
DT...like it.
LB....5 or 6 deep...excited about parsons and cox...gifford has managed to stay healthy so far and has played well.
CB...behind diggs...i like what i've seen from wright and canady.
joseph...like the potential.
S...we'll see.

so i dont think its fair to say we have no depth at all.
problem spots to me are..QB2...C2...S.

but you wont get an answer til they are called on.
thats when you'll find out what you have.
Nscheke has horrible and Steele and Knight haven't gotten any better. Reserve OT is one of the first positions Id make a trade for

not me.
im keepin my picks and i'd go with nsekhe...steele if we lost both smith and collins.

Knight and Steele was an absolute disaster last year, and neither look any better. Nsekhe looks just as bad as them. IMO going into the season with those three as your backups, especially when we dont know about Collins health is asking for disaster. They are are not good players

We draft well every year, how can this happen?

We draft wel in the early rounds, we suck in the late rounds and we don’t use FA the right way…leaves you a team with some stars but no depth

So, I think a good backup QB trade, maybe for a draft pick, would be great! If Dallas can pick up a center as well, the team can reload really well. The positive view looking forward is this.

The top 5 offense has gotten better, but will need time for Dak to re-develop a rhythm with his receivers, who are the best trio in the league. Zeke seems to have a burst that we haven't seen in a while. The O-line has durability issues, and success will depend on that. Additionally COVID protocols will probably sideline Dak if he has chosen to opt out of the vaccine, which is his legitimate right. So, backup QB is really important... I'm thinking that Dallas consider a trade with the Cardinals, they can't afford to hope to pick Chris Streveler up on waivers. I really think that Nick Ralston needs to stay on this team and make the 53 to firmly plant the dominance of a running game when Dallas needs it.

Defense. LB's are the strength of this team, the DT position has been revitalized, and we have an overload of talented pass rushers in DLaw, Gregory, and Anae. Corners are young and will have some learning, but I tend toward optimism with them. The safety position has been overhauled, and we just need to give it a chance. I think this preseason has been quiet on purpose, this defense will be much better than the league average. Pairing that with a top 5 offense, Dallas will be strong this year.

Most NFL teams have only a few positions at which there is meaningful depth. We have quality depth at RB, WR and LB. The number of teams with quality depth at more than 3-4 positions is very small.

I see 4 teams with three starting quality OTs on their roster. Maybe I’m missing 1 or 2, but the point is it’s a small minority of teams. The myth of the quality swing tackle being commonplace is just that, a myth.

This is basically the entire league. There just aren’t that many superstars to go around. That’s why coaching is so important.

People asking how does this happen. It doesn’t happen it’s just the way it is. What do you think we can’t find a back up quarterback. Because people can’t find a starter.

Uh, 2017 sucked. 2018 sucked. 2019 sucked. 2020 was decent.......so far.

2017 only still yields J. Lewis and Noah Brown, so not very good.

2018 got us LVE, C. Williams, Gallup, Armstrong, Schultz and C. Wilson. All regular contributors, so no way it sucked.

2019 essentially got us Amari, plus Pollard. Donovan Wilson looks like an ascending player. The jury is still out on T. Hill and McGovern. Not a homerun, but it hardly sucked.

It is and even that department is lacking these days.

The rookie center looked pretty darn good to me today.

We need a backup QB. I swear every team we played in pre-season I would have taken any of their backup QBs over ours. I would like to get one after week 1 and I mean any QB other than our 3. Next year I want to spend a 3rd rounder on a decent QB prospect.

TE you missed Jarwin.

Good post.
Farniok is going to be a baller.

NFL seasons always have injuries. Having depth is a good idea. But yet again, we have no depth. Our #2 QB is horrendous. OL depth is nonexistent. Which is a huge issue because Collins is getting hurt this offseason. And we all know Tyron will go down and most likely Maetin. And on the defense, the secondary depth is bad. Really no depth on that side of the ball at all. Another year of expecting the starters to stay on the field all year to have any chance to win.

The term "next man up" spells disaster.

But this is no surprising if you follow the drafts year and year. So much wasted junk, especially 2nd round picks.

What are you talking about. Issac, Steele & Knight can fill OG & OT position.

None at all. JJ's scout department has to be one of the worst.

I mostly agree with what you wrote besides this : "OT...i think steele, knight and nsheke give us better depth than some think."

what have you seen from any of them to think its better than what we have seen? They have all been awful. I was actually hoping drafting Ball would have helped but obviously he isnt stepping up.

Welcome to the NFL.

No team has perfect depth. It fluctuates at different positions for every team for where they have "depth" and where they have noticeable weaknesses behind their starters.
