It's not often that you see a 6th round choice achieving what Anthony Brown did last year. I read earlier that he's likely to become our #1 CB this year and gotta admit, I'll have no real problem with granting it to someone like him. This guy has nice upside.

He's admittedly young but quite deserving, imho. Let's all hope he manages to improve upon last season. I'm inclined to think that he might well succeed in doing so. Second years for CBs normally tend to work out that way. Here's hoping he does just that. The Cowboys really struck gold, apparently, this year in the secondary. Things are really looking good for our DBs in 2017. Expect 'em to improve all year!

I can not remember a time we had so many young players to be excited about. I know my silver and blue goggles are on and these guys have a ton to prove but honestly you can go up and down this roster and find guys who you are excited to see what they've got. Gone are the days of aging vets with low ceilings. The sky is the limit for this team.

Yeah----if Dak/Zeke didn't steal the show---we would all be stoked with the rookie seasons of Brown/Collins. Crazy their spectacular rookie seasons are an afterthought.

Some people on here like to always bring up the fact that Brown is handsy and could be a victim of defensive PI in the future.

These people don't understand our defense.

This defense will give up the occasional PI call. Much like the Seahawks, the players are being trained to be physical knowing that the referees are not going to throw a flag every play. The Seahawks wrote the script, they are probably guilty of defensive PI every play but the refs don't want to completely take over games. I would rather see a collection of guys playing physical compared to what we have seen lately.

So yes...Brown will probably get his fair share of flags but it will be totally worth it when we see OBJ throwing a fit on the sidelines because our defense is getting in his head.

The refs allow hand-fighting up through the stem of the route 95 % of the time. The 5 yard limit is somewhat of a misnomer.

Now if you grab a handful of receiver and yanking back and forth they do call that past 5 yards. OTOH, Kung ** is just fine. It's so defenders can compete when receivers shove off at the stem is what I figure. They always do and they don't get called for that either.

After the first cut past 5 yards though if you are handsy and are not looking for the ball they are going to flag you. The yanking caveats still apply but if you look for the ball you can swat and otherwise handfight working downfield.

While that all is not in the rulebook that is how the game is actually called. This is similar to how the rulebooks don't allow OL to grab a defender by the shoulderpads but they get away with it constantly as long as their hands are inside and arms aren't extended. Martin and co. do it every down.

Fun Fact. Browns fiance was in the army and stationed at Fort Hood. (She was in my Battalion) I actually meet him before the draft, they never talked about him (at the time) potentially being drafted. He was real cool and laid back.

Nice share, soldier...

When coaches say an OLineman has "heavy hands", they really mean he can basically hold legally by grasping the front of the defender similar to the way someone would palm a basketball.

In regards to DBs, I'm certain that guys like Sherman study the individual refs to know what they can get by with similar to how baseball teams have reports on how umps call balls and strikes. Some refs allow a lot more "hands action" than others.

Exactly. I noticed last season a small shift in philosophy, I remember actually reading an article stating the Cowboys took the Seahawks approach to pass defense...push the limit every play knowing what the refs like to call and knowing that the refs aren't going to flag you for DPI every play...or even every drive for that matter.

There is simply no way anybody can complain about the direction the Club has taken in recent years. There is finally something real to look forward to. The future belongs to the Cowboys.

Yeah I know most Cowboy fans resemble myself "expect the worst and hope for the best" but there is a real modern yet traditional approach going on with this team in regards to roster building.

The only thing that holds me back from being overconfident is 2007. I felt similar, I felt Parcells set us up with a deep, talented young defense due to some very good drafts and offensively, we looked as good as any team in the league without Romo playing MVP ball. I never would've imagined we would've only got one playoff with that team(roster was pretty much turned over by 2014).

I feel we are better suited for a future run now but the NFL is just so damn competitive to be overconfident about anything. Our best window is these next 3 years before Dak gets a 200 million deal, our OL starts t age and we have to decide if Zeke is worth a second contract. We may be good for awhile with Dak but no way anyone can say the Seahawks are as deadly now as they were during Wilson's rookie deal.
