Anthony Brown

Lets see. Everyone was a fan of Brown one year and hated him the next. Since time has passed we're now saying to let a first round pick go because suddenly Brown is on the same level.

I didn’t say he is on the same level, and I’ve never hated Brown.

In this thread I mentioned Jones getting twice as much on his next contract as Brown, so clearly, I’m not saying they’re on the same level.

Jones is better, and I’d rather have him on the team. However, if Jones wants $18M and Brown wants $9M (for example), then I could see Dallas keeping the less expensive of the two. With all of the contracts coming up in Dallas, I think some decisions like that will have to be made.

That’s all I’m saying.

I think the combo of mcclay/Stephen have taken into account the d-back situation well. two years ago they cleaned house, ridding the team of scando, carr, church and wilcox. then they draft brown, awuzie, Jourdan lewis, westry and jackson this year, and in a great move, make jones a cb which appears is where he belonged all along. picked up iloka for insurance. and Xavier woods really coming on. would hate to lose jones, but it would be survivable.

Jones is better, no doubt. I was lazy with what I wrote.

My point is (just using estimated figures) that if Jones is $18M and Brown is $9M... they might opt to go with Brown, who is a good player in his own right.

I really like Jones and hope they find a way to keep him, but I could understand Keeping Brown and letting Byron go elsewhere.
Completely agreed. And though Jones is better as a pure cover guy, I don't think he makes that much more impact on a game than Brown, really. Say what you will about using INTs as a metric to evaluate corners but Jones doesn't generate them, and he also doesn't follow around the other team's best WR (at least that I recall, he didn't against Hopkins or Thomas). Especially with all the other contracts on this team, I don't want to pay a premium for a corner who isn't a game changer.

I didn't say you thought the same, just throwing out the general thoughts of others that have stated such. Sorry for the confusion.

our own Jourdan lewis covered kamara like a blanket during the saints game. no one else did that all year.

Lewis played 8 snaps that game.

I like his talent, and actually he's part of the reason why I'd feel comfortable moving on from Byron. But he didn't do much against NO lol

It was a bonus to have a quality 4th QB to allow the Cowboys to play Dime on those 8 snaps.

I wouldn’t be too surprised if Dallas signed him and let Byron go after this season.

He will be much cheaper but, IMO his ability isn’t that far from Jones.
This guy always caught **** for whatever reason IDK. He makes plays on the ball and could tackle. I think other teams will be willing to pay him also.

What about when he played 40 snaps against the jags?

Brown is a serviceable role player, imo – and you don’t commit big dollar contract to average serviceable players.
When asked to start full time on the outside, AB struggled, he still has a habit of not getting his head around in coverage ( amazing how many of CBs have had this habit)

He is tough and durable, he's a very fine athlete with an impressive 40 time (4.3) will tackle and he does has the hands for INTs if he can face the passer and driving forward on the ball
and so far under Richard's coaching, he has done well for what he's role is.
But I still think you have to keep it limited with him and the slot role is working out well with him here thus far.

I do cringe if Brown has to step in and start per injury to either Jones or Awuzie on the outside. But its so very tough to have that kind of quality depth at CB.
But as typical nature of free agency, just like Maliek, Lael and Heath, some team is going to commit big money start contracts to Brown as well as see him as a legit sink or swim starter.

But I see Brown as more of a serviceable role player and not warranted of a starter money contract, imo.
