If he hasn't even practiced yet, they'll slowly bring him back into contact drills. I'm thinking November at the earliest barring any setbacks. This team isn't usually very reliable on their injury reports, I know a lot of it is misinformation to keep opponents on their toes - but I've learned not to hold my breath when Jerry/Jason say a guy is 'almost' there.

The report that he is working on the chords came from Broadus not JJ. Unless he is just lying (wouldn't seem like a journalistic thing to do), I definitely see him back given that information. Now, I'm not saying he will be back week one. However, I'll bet that he does not start the season on the PUP. In any case, I firmly believe that he will play this year. I just don't know if he will be anywhere near the player that he was in 2012. My expectations are tempered. I hope he proves me wrong.

Love this idea and would also add Martez Wilson to that rotation as I still think rushing with his hand on the ground is not his strong suite at this time.

Why do we need to have them with there hand on the ground to be a rush man... i watch Dware the other night playing in Denver and he rushed standing up more than with his hand on the ground.

i say have them just stand up if they are more comfortable, but they are rushers PERIOD.

The OP was proposing using the 2 positions interchangeably (OLB & DE) and cause chaos by mixing up who will come (pass rush) and who drops into coverage. Having 2 guys standing up would perk up the O's ears and eliminate that element of surprise.

Beginning to think I'd play with Wilber and Carter over there on pure passing downs, one up/one down and play all kinds of games as to who is coming, who is dropping............or both coming.or none coming with a McClain blitz........both can play LB and have some blitz/rush experience.........gotta get Melton one on one up the middle without the LT checking him and a RB or TE being able to handle a non-factor DE.

At this point..

I think the team is going to be looking for a RDE via trade or coming cuts.

There is no way Lawrence returning is going to be some miracle to be ready to help us with 4 or 6 games to play.

We need help and the lack of a pass rush in the pre-season is going to send off all sorts of alarm bells in the Kingdom.

Watch and see.

If Spencer was 100% then either he or Selvie would move to RDE.

Mincey does have some rush ability.

I don't think Spencer is really ready. If he is not already practicing, I would rush him. He should stay on the PUP for the first 6 games.

If Spencer could go 15-20 snaps a game at RDE, a stop gap in a way before D. Lawrence gets back we may have something. I think he's best qualified to play the position. He played in the shadows of D.Ware for a long time, I think the opportunity would get him excited. Whether he can stay healthy for 6 weeks until D Lawrence gets back, your guess is as good as mine.

If he stays healthy you can rotate Spencer and Lawrence. Mincey can be used as a back-up or for situational stunt/run plays.

A Healthy Spencer and Lawrence could make that RDE a position of strength and really open things up for Melton.

cant argue with the thought, but don't see them overpaying JJ style as in years past. Don't see a roster cut player solving the problem

I am betting Lawrence is back with 8-10 games to go. I do expect to see us look at the guys that get released the last week or two and maybe even consider a low level trade.

What is funny is that a lot of people panicking for DL help are ones that were saying to blow it all up and get rid of the dead wood and big contracts. Now that we are doing that, they are crying that we don't have talent. You can't have it both ways.

Well..

I'll agree Reggie White is not available at this time.

But where I would look is what other teams drafted DL high on their lists and chances are..

one of those teams has a veteran that is "overpaid" and the rookie is meant to replace him right now.

That's where I'd look.

Yep..

it's a thin line to walk..

letting established high-paid DL like..Hatcher, Ware and last year Ratliff..

walk..

has set the team back several years until that talent is re-stocked.

I'm forming the opinion that the team this year is going to really hit rock bottom and as a result..

Garrett gets dismissed and our next HC is right around the corner..

and the high draft picks from that bad year will give us a high #1 draft pick..

which will help the team rebuild..

..buy another year of healing for Lee to get ready..

..I'm trying not to use those Rose Colored Glasses I always don about now.

So bare with me..
