Should have thrown money at Wade Phillips instead. Nolan is nowhere near Wade's caliber.
Hoping Edwards and/or Al Harris pan out.
I'm still trying to get a track on new Defensive Coordinator Mike Nolan and his past record, pattern, what failed him and what made him successful as a DC.
And what " should " make him a successful DC here with the Cowboys.
As much as it is hyped and talked about the explosive offense, i truly believe our success to the SB will ride on what we produce on Defense.
I'm one of those old schoolers that believe defense decides the wins in SB championships .
Look back at the chances we've had in the playoffs - and it seems every time, every playoff game you can think of we have got butt -kicked outta the playoffs because of the failings of the defense
Green Bay,.. Vikes,.. Rams
And how many DC's have we gone through now ? Brian Stuart ..Wade Phillips..Rob Ryan.. ..Monte Kiffin ... Rod Marinell,... Kris Richard ... and now it's Mike Nolan's turn.
What will Mike Nolan bring here anew...vs the past failed DC's ?
Here were some of the teams and years of Nolan's stints as DC:
NYGiants 1993
Washington 1997
NYJets 2000
Ravens 2002
Denver 2009
Miami 2010
ATL 2012

why not? not just insurance the DC have always had one of the largest Coaching staffs in the NFL..theres no cap for coaches and better to have more voices that can help players especially this year even if most extras are Consultants..its not new concept ..its an insurance policy.
Nolan starts to blow up our defense like he did in Atlanta, Jerry pulls the plug and we roll with Edwards.
dont overthink and overheat your brain, you are correct with one word you "THINK" ie unsure have no clue a and worried..and? thats for the Owners , GM, and others to KNOW whos here for what reason..If MM dont want them and who heartedly objected, he would not be here..agree.
wade is 73 though. He might be thinking about retiring.
Not worried about Edwards ability to coach. But he is a Coach without a role.
he is “senior defensive assistant.” What is that?
he was rumored to be the LBs coach, but Mike wants ScottM (who has only been an assistant LB coach at GB.)
I think Edwards is a Jerry hire, not a MikeM guy.

I'm gonna have to trust McCarthy on this one.
yes it was clear he did he went out of his way to secure him..if MM went to KM and said go ahead take the college offer he would have he told KM that hed be happy if he stayed..He was free to go and stayed because of MM..you think MikeM wants KMoore around? 8/
Especially with his old buddy Philbin around?
Its easy man.

Not me, Wade's fade with Rams proved his demise, ... and notice how no one swept up Wade once Rams let him go.
He seems to find ways in his one gap slanting pass rush to get rushers but there seems to be something going wrong
with his back seven, whether it's a flawed schematic or failed techniques, but something always goes wrong with
coverage and tackling.
And you have to wonder about Wade's ability to adjust in game at this stage (and age?) to ever evolving today's offense.
When you move and pay out such an tremendous bundle for free agency, trades and re-signings spree, then your coaches
had better get those high invested players had better respond by performance.
And they vastly underachieved under Wade.
how about stop questioning a very good Vet Coach who just replaced a coach most wanted gone and now pre-judging his decsions and a Nolan's possible productivity before one damn game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..except Nolan is washed up. See Atlanta 2012-2014
and Edwards is one of the top DCs in the NFL.
why hire Nolan when you can get Edwards?
cause Nolan and Mike are big buddies. Nolan gave Mike the OC job at Niners back in 2005.
that DC job is worth millions.
Faded??? Underachieved???
When was the last time Nolan took a defense to SB?
Wade has done it TWICE in past 5 seasons with TWO different teams.
When was last time Nolan has fielded a top 5 defense???? When was the last time Nolan turned around a defense in ONE season??? When was the last time Nolan coached a DMVP (or DMVP runnerup) and that player credited him for their improvement????

Phillips certainly has past accolades, but it's still what he didn't do lately with the Rams - and with a team vigrously going on a spending spree
such as giving up big very expensive trade bits to get CB Jalen Ramsey, they expect defensive wiz to capitalize on defense - not falter backwards .., and i'll bet the way All pro CB Marcus Peterson faltered so badly under Wade before trading him to Ravens, where he rejuvenated his career had to play a part of him not returning as well
For what they put up player wise- they felt the were not getting return investment coach wise.
i'm just so glad McCarthy did not turn to one of his old buddies such as Dom Capers to be DC here with the Cowboys, as Capers was a clear disaster in his later years in GB, and MM waited waay too late to finally get rid of him.
i want younger blood for a longer term future, and a guy who can make better adjustments in game.
Last stop in Atlanta not so hot. Maybe he didn’t have much to work with. Some DVOA rankings (better measure of defense) https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/nfl/team-defense:

This should be fun. I wonder why MM would hire him. Friends or not you want the best you can get.Nolan had the worst defense in the NFL in 2014.
Got his HC fired, and him self.
Now we have this mess in Dallas.
