Quick question, I work as a 1099 sub contractor, rather than pay me and 12 others for the work we did the owner of the company fired us saying he is not going to pay.

What are my options here? All work is well documented including pictures

i am not a lawyer either.
i believe you can get him in trouble for 'hiding' employees as contractors with the IRS? i would suggest emailing him while copying everyone in the group.
i presume he has promised all of you, so it is the word of 12 vs. 1?
has he had other violations before?
if he does not cooperate, you can always tell him that you are going to start copying the IRS in the email.
though you should check with an attorney first, of course.

a bit more.
most lawyers would allow you to ask question while on the initial call.
so write down your questions and ask in a which like - "this is the situation - what can you do to help me".

Hot damn. 1st off, sorry you are dealing with this garbage.
2nd- Listen to @FuzzyLumpkins

Get this stuff documented officially as soon as you can and make the long journey of reclamation from there.

Good luck bud! I'm rooting like hell for you.

Absolutely. I just wish I could do more...

I remember having to beg, BEG! On my knees for a paycheck for work done and then learning that there were laws and what-not on my side.
But Laws and what-not mean weeks, months and even years before what you want- you get,

Man, I hate that you are going through this @Ren . Anything, even if it's just support: I'll give it.
You ask for anything- you never know what the power of a group can reveal.

I'm on your side.

Edit: Love ya, @Trouty , but I mean @Ren on this one.

Hate you are going through this. Follow what was said about getting everything documented as quickly as possible. I would have stomped his *** as soon as he told me he wasn't going to pay me. Dont be like me...

Make sure you and everyone else find and keep all documents, receipts, emails, texts, etc. related to the work! Would suggest making multiple print copies of everything as well.

Copies of all that were turned over to the police this morning, call my cynical but I really don't think they will do much. Workforce basically said tough luck cant help you, wage claims are only for W2 employee's. Dont really see that many options left here other than sue

If the district attorney's office does not get involved then you are going to have to sue. What he is doing is criminal but the DA has to prosecute. Have they given you a police report yet?

I'll say a prayer for you tonight, my brother.

This ain't right and this guy is a crook. He needs to be taught a lesson. He needs to be punished.

He's lucky I ain't part of your work crew. With a child to feed and a small arsenal, he'd meet his judgment. Take food away from me -- ok, I'll figure it out. Take food from my child, I'll catch you at your doorstep and do life.

People like this don't know whom they're screwing, is my point, I guess. And my heart is with you, Ren.

I guess he is starting to feel some preasure now cause he tried to settle, but his offer was insultingly low and anything short of a 100% of what he owes will get rejected. He got pissed and started sending threats through WhatsApp.

Might just go find the guy and beat my money out of him at this point
