Any monthly subscription sites you subscribe to?

Referring to those monthly box programs.

They seem to now have one for nearly everything. From around 19-21 I wasted money on Dollar Shave Club, but looking back into these after hearing about a few from my colleagues, some seem to offer enough additional value where they seem worthwhile.

The ones I am considering subscribing to right now are https://www.tastersclub.com/, https://gentlemansbox.com/, https://www.sprezzabox.com/, https://www.bespokepost.com/, https://www.birchbox.com

One that is a bit pricier but ships quarterly/seasonally, looks very interesting to me. Wish they had a quarterly clothing one that sent 2 outfits that fit with the season.

I've done bespokepost and sprezza.

bespokepost has really cool items and i've found a lot of gems that i can use and/or gift. at the same time a lot of that cool stuff is less necessary and more luxury type items.
i seldom order my box but i have forgotten a couple times to cancel. access to high end items definitely worth checking out. but it's not a cheap service.

sprezza has a basic tie, tie square, dress socks, trendy item type thing in each box. it is a tremendous value if you wear suits or want to start collecting dressy accent pieces.
at about 20 bucks it's a great deal. i eventually stopped the service because i have like 50 ties which is about how many times i wear a tie for the entire year.
i've added some very useful ties, tie-clips, cufflinks and sock via the service. only knock was shipping seems really slow.6-7 days after they tell me it's shipped

dollarshaveclub - Though I don't use anywhere near 1 set of razors a month. I shave once a week, and only my neck and upper cheeks as I sport a beard. I have about 9 unopened boxes of razors just collecting dust atm. Will probably cancel at some point until I run out.

Cannabox - Been subscribed to this for about 2 years. Probably going to cancel soon because I have so much of this crap that I don't use. So many papers/blunt wraps that it would take me a year to use it all at the rate I smoke. A new Pipe every month is great though, I have a nice collection going.

I've been interested in these kind of services for a while. I hate shopping for clothes. My problem is that I have not found/seen a service that matches up with my style. It's usually one extreme or another. Super GQ/metrosexual or super hipster ******.

Honestly, I fall somewhere in the middle, I would describe my style as urban (I wear, sneakers such as Jordan's, Air Force ones, etc) with some banana republic mixed in. I also wear a lot of active wear/gym shorts etc. I only wear slacks and short sleeve polos to work, no ties.

I am not against trying something new or wearing something out of my comfort zone, I just have not liked anything enough to try any of these services.

the best one is trunk club but it's pricey.
they would get your style right but it is an investment.

your style may change as you work with a professional and try new things.

the other sub service i did was for food and blue apron was a good experience if only because it taught me some cooking techniques and ingredients i wouldn't normally use.

I have no problem making that investment, this has been something i have been wanting to do for a while. As for blue apron, i have received coupons for it but actually haven't tried it. I am interested in that as well.

i never regretted sprezza at all. if you have the available leeway in the budget you won't be disappointed in this one.
the value is very very good. you really do get about 50 worth of items each month for half that in cost.

I have no problem making that investment, this has been something i have been wanting to do for a while. As for blue apron, i have received coupons for it but actually haven't tried it. I am interested in that as well.

blue apron usually has free or very discounted trials. may check those out.

another one is hellofresh.
same basic thing.
someone sent me a free trial to it and it was pretty good as well if you edit the menus and such to get meals you'll eat.

also youtube is a surprisingly good source of data on these services.
there are people who do nothing but reviews so get hooked up with the clubs and offer insights with actual products.

In truth; these can be cool, but they quickly lose their status as you end up getting a bunch of stuff you don't need or you grow tired of what they are sending you.

The only one I'm a part of now are wine clubs and usually only from wineries themselves. Not the mix-and-match clubs cause you end up getting garbage.

From a business model perspective... The venture capitalist crowd seems to love them... From what numbers I've seen and having some idea (within certain industries) what the cost of goods are, I struggle to find the allure from an investment standpoint. They seem like money-pits– I'm sure there are some that are doing well, but the cost of customer acquisition is extremely high combined with the fact that many of the "box" businesses are dealing with very tight margins.

They're not like Guthy-Renker and Proactive. The cost of goods for their acne products is very low. And even with that low a profit margin, it takes about 6 buying cycles for a subscription customer to become profitable. I can't imagine how long it would take one of these companies that's hawking products at a profit margin of only 30%.

The client base is sticky in this space. 30% is exceptional with loyal customers
