Anyone heard anything on this? I remember Mort and Shefter saying over the weekend it was basically a done deal. Will be curious to see what his role actually ends up being.

i think something will be done by end of this week,

seems like jerry jones is taking a low approach now, so distractions may not affect the cowboys so much

I think Jerry is still not sure what he's planning to do.

Reeves will probably be a consultant, but the scope of his work is probably still being debated, and I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry is still unsure about much of the coaching staff, including Wade.

Either that, or Jerry is standing on some beam atop his new stadium and thinking about ending it all.

I concur. I don't think even Jerry knows what he's going to do. Me thinks he wants a backup plan in case he let's Wade go in midseason. If for some reason Garrett is not the guy to call up at the time, he can promote Reeves and plug along. I can see Reeves becoming the headcoach after the bye week if we're stinking up the joint then.

Jerry will be the GM, but you can't honestly believe Jerry is making ALL of the decisions by himself. I'm sure he had help behind-the-scenes.

Reeves is here because of Wade. It was Wade that brought Dan Reeves son-in-law to the organization as special teams coach, before discussions even began with Dan Reeves. If it weren't for Wade, Dan Reeves wouldn't be sniffing a job with the Cowboys.

Dan Reeves is here to put a check on, I mean 'consult' with, Jason Garrett.

I'm betting that Stephen would like to have a guy like Dan Reeves here too.

Thanks for clearing that up Khiladi. Imagine, most of our media has no clue exactly what Reeves' role will be. But you've figured it all out. Obviously, you're in the wrong line of work (unless you are a used car salesman).

Reeves Addition Looks Likely
Posted by rphillips at 2/2/2009 10:48 PM CST on truebluefanclub.com

Valley Ranch isn’t exactly bustling – the building has been somewhat quiet since the Cowboys’ season-ending loss to Philadelphia a month ago – but head coach Wade Phillips and his staff were back at work on Monday.

Dan Reeves, whose name surfaced last week as a potential team consultant, evidently was in the building as well.

The Cowboys are not confirming reports that Reeves recently spoke to the organization about taking a consultant position on Phillips‘ staff. But according to multiple sources, a formal announcement is likely to be made at some point. Don’t be surprised if Reeves officially comes aboard as soon as this week.

Right now it’s unclear what Reeves’ specific duties would be, but an advisory role makes sense when considering his ties to Phillips and the Cowboys. Reeves, of course, played running back and began his coaching career under Tom Landry. Phillips also served as Reeves’ defensive coordinator in Denver (1989-92) and Atlanta (2002-03) and later succeeded him in both places.

A day after the 2008 season, Phillips vowed change in his team’s preparation and execution and specifically mentioned Reeves as someone he would consult regarding his own coaching approach. Now it appears Reeves will be around to help full-time.

Stay tuned.

-Rob Phillips

Are you disputing the fact that Wade and Reeves are close friends?

Are you disputing the fact that Dan Reeves hated the way Jerry Jones fired Tom Landry?

Are you disputing the fact that Wade went out and hired Dan Reeves son-in--law prior to even the mentioning of Dan as a candidate?

Are you disputing the fact that Wade, as oon as the season was over, specifically mentioned that he would consult his football ties over what he needs to change, including Dan Reeves?

Are you disputing the fact Dan Reeves had Wade Phillips as his DC at Denver?

Are you disputing the fact that Dan Reeves pretty much stated, way before Wade came to the Cowboys, that Wade Phillips has one of the best eyes at spotting talent?

Are you disputing the fact that Wade started to take credit for how the defense was performing, once he took over, but use to say that we needed to run the ball more and reign Tony Romo in, and he made the same statements at the end of the season?

Are you disputing the fact that Dan Reeves pretty much took himself out of the running, no matter how long a hsot it was, for the OC position as SF, to take a job as a consultant with the Cowboys?

I thought so...

Wow. Hit a nerve.

What I'm disputing is this.

Dan Reeves is here to put a check on, I mean 'consult' with, Jason Garrett.

Left that claim out of your list, didn't you. Sure, he's here because of his relationship with Wade. But how do you know his primary purpose will be to babysit Garrett and not do something else, like babysit Jerry the GM or babysit Wade the weak HC?

You know--emphatically--because it fits your agenda.

Well done.

The Wade Phillips ties are obvious.

This notion that he's definitely here to "shape up" Garrett is pure conjecture.

Probably because Reeves' background has always been offense. He just turned down the San Fran OC job last week.

He's done a variety of things, including special teams.

My question is if he was brought here to tutor Garrett--how?

His recent offenses minus Elway have been as bland and unimaginative as Garrett was accused of being. His success in Atlanta consisted of running Jamal Anderson until he collapsed. Rodney Hampton the same way in New York. Perhaps it would be to reinforce the running mentality.

I am of the thought that this is more to benefit the operation and specifically Phillips and give him every avenue to succeed because Jones really likes him.

I don't see him being here as some sort of reinforcement for a deficiency of Garrett specifically.

You mean he runs the ball.... And your asking how he can tutor Garrett, with 3 running backs that can carry the load, and not just one?

Hit a nerve? It is called an educated guess, based upon evidence. What makes you think Dan Reeves was hired to assist practices? Oh let me guess, an 'guess', based upon what?

You answered your own question. :)

Garrett wasn't bland and unimaginative. If anything, he was too whiz-bang and ended up outsmarting himself. Running tailbacks into the ground like you describe is exactly what we need more of.

Now personally, I agree that he's here for a larger role than tutoring coaches. But his expertise is absolutely on the offensive side of the ball. And if he were helping any coach specifically, I think it would clearly be Garrett. He's the most inexperienced and has proved the least of any of them.

You seemed a bit angry in your response.

I admit that anything I would come up with would be a guess and one based on very little information. I didn't claim to know exactly why Reeves was here--that was you.
