He was a league leader in false starts, according Aikman in one of his broadcasts.
He is known to have poor work ethics and takes plays off?

I am a huge Texas homer...and I am not ashamed to admit it.

NO TO DOCKERY. He has totally underachieved as a Pro. He makes so many mental errors. He has yet to get in good condition.

He is definitely not the player he should have been when he came out of UT.

On a good note though.....he is an upgrade from Rivera and he will be one of the cheaper G in FA....

He's a lot like Gurode. You'll love his size and athleticism, but makes a lot of mental errors. Probably a significant upgrade over Rivera and at times very good, but I wouldn't send the house to get him. Eric Steinbach is a far better guard that can also play tackle in a pinch.

He reminds of the linemen we had in the 90's, big and strong. Not quite the athletic, quicker linemen we have picked under Parcells. With the 90's offensive guys returning to the fold it wouldn't suprise me at all to see him one of our targets in the offseason. Put him between Gurode and Columbo and we should be set on the right side for the next five years.

My fondest hope connected to Parcells leaving is that the Boys will get back to the formula that led them to glory in the Jimmuh days-- a big, physical, dominating offensive line driving everything...

Had enough of these smaller but quick offensive linemen, in the Parcells mold... bring back Hudson Houck, and let him find some of those "big butts" he so loved...

That's what I think as well.

He's sort of the opposite of a Kosier type lineman.

I think Dockery is more of a mauler, strong at point of attack - like the guys we had in Nate Newton, etc. Dockery's strengths are not getting to the second level, for example, and pulling (Kosier).

Anyway, I thought he would be more cost effective than some of the other names out there.

What would you think about going after Leonard Davis, and moving him to guard?? I think he'd be perfect on the inside, kind of a latter day Kevin Gogan...

Dockery would be a huge score if the Cowboys got him, but I doubt the skins will let him hit the streets.

They may not have much choice in the matter, they're tight up against the cap again this year...

Or they may renegotiate with half the team again, and manage to get him re-signed...

Dockery is decent at G, not special. From what I've seen, he's a pretty good pass protector and a decent run blocker when he's got his guy right in front of him. Not real good in space, decent, but not actually dominating at the point of attack. Very reliable and hasn't hardly missed a game at Washington.

He's also benefitted a lot from having Gibbs and Bugel running the offense, and a lot of stability on that OL. Other than Casey Rabach missing a few snaps near the end of last year, the Commanders have started the same 5 offensive linemen, in the same offensive scheme for 32 straight games, I think.

Uhhh, not quite... Randy Thomas missed the last 2 regular season games in
05, after breaking his leg in the second game against the Boys...

However, your point is still valid, the Skins have been real fortunate when it comes to continuity on their offensive line the last 2 years...

Yes, everyone knows Steinbach is the best guard prospect out there.

That's strange, I don't know that...

Steinbach has some skills, but is on the small side... he has to be in the right system to maximize his abilities, meaning one that employs smaller, agile linemen... one that stresses the ability to pull...

He wouldn't be nearly as good a fit in an old fashioned smashmouth scheme, and I hope that the Boys will move back to that kind of a scheme...

Actually, for my money the best guard out there is Kris Dielman from the Chargers... he's agile enough to play for a team like the Broncos, but still has more than a little smashmouth in him...

Since the mid-90s, Dallas' problems have been that there's never been a coherent plan in place for the OL.

Dockery's a good player but if you sign him to replace Rivera, you'll need to replace Kosier also.

Then by all means, replace Kosier... I liked the effort he gave the Boys last year, but he's hardly an irreplaceable cog...

Pick a scheme and stick to it.

Amen... let's look back to the glory days of the Dallas Cowboys, the Jimmuh Johnson era edition, and attempt to reconstruct that kind of a big, physical, mauling offensive line...

As of right now, Washington's over the cap and there are a ton of teams with more than $20 million under the cap.

Any agent that allows their client to take anything less than a ridiculous offer without hitting free agency should be barred by the NFLPA.

We're going to see what we think are insane deals to mediocre players this year.

With all those teams having all that cap room, you're exactly right... first off, a lot of the marquee players will be retained by their old teams, thanks to so many of those teams having a significant amount of cap room...

This will dilute the talent pool, making even lesser talents more attractive on the open market, which will in turn lead to those lesser talents getting the kind of deals that much better talents have gotten in the past few years...

Agreed. He was Mister False Start for a while there, it seems to me.

he'd be perfect in the blocking scheme we run

I don't think Jerry Jones is going to go completely away from any of Parcells' methods, not now at least when his squad is on the cusp

Dockery is an absolute animal... especially when he pulls out. He had a bad habbitt of tripping over his own feet earlier in his career but this year he was flat out dominant especially later in the season.

Hes especially effective on inside runs because hes usually able to push his assignment back a lot of yards due to size and strength.

We would be dumb to let him sign with another team.
