Any possibility S. Lee returns?

Couldn't you put him on IR with the designated to return tag and not worry about that roster spot?

While it might not be super-realistic, a return after, maybe the Thanksgiving game, wouldn't be impossible I don't think. That would be like 7 months...who knows.

I'd imagine they would do just that. Week 8, however, seems completely unrealistic. Week 14 for the stretch run in December MIGHT happen. But you're right, IR with designation to return doesn't hurt anything and makes the most sense.

I personally hope his replacement plays lights out this season & they move on from Sean permanently. He's just hurt too much. At some point get off the roller coaster that is his career. If they can do that cap wise that is.

Maybe can do 2 things.
Start him out on PUP, you have 6 weeks to see progress. Actually 8 I think. After 6 weeks, he can practice with the team for 2 weeks, before a final decision is made, and not count as a roster spot. In this case, ride a bike. Then if not ready, which he may not be, then use the IR tag to return, see where he is around week 12 or even 14. See where team stands in playoffs hunt.
Can then activate him, even if he don't play until playoffs.
Or move him to regular IR.
That way they have 8 weeks to use IR designated to return tag on someone else if needed.

I'm not sure they can do this, depending the rules, but seems a possiblity.

When healthy he is the best football player on this time. Only Tyron & Dez really compare. It's a tragedy a potential HOF career has been derailed by injuries.

he's the best player in the rehab room - if/when he's well enough to return, I say put him in regardless of % healthy. it will only be a matter of time when he's hurt again so at this point, get as much out of him as we can.

Typically it takes 6-8 months. He tore his ACL in May, so he can easily be back by the end of the season if everything goes well. His rehab process has already started, he will start doing exercises to strengthen the knee in a couple weeks. In a couple months / around pre season he will already be back to running and cutting again. All that based on the average recovery time. I think he will be back by week 10-12. We haven't IR'd him yet so that pretty much tells me they expect him back this year.

He won't be on IR until the start of the season. After last cutdown. He will go on PUP until then.
most likely they will keep him there until they must decide.
Unless they alrady know for sure the extent of the damage.

The off-season rules are such that they can't put him on IR right now without cutting him first (i.e. expose him to waivers). They have to wait until the beginning of training camp at which time they can put him on the PUP which would eventually lead to IR.

You might remember the TE that the Giants tried to move to IR in the off-season a couple of years ago and the Patriots claimed him. The Giants cried that there was an unwritten rule that other teams wouldn't claim injured players, but Belichick gave them the finger.

I was thinking this since they haven't IR'd him, for example Weatherspoon or whatever his name is from the falcons was already put on IR ending his season.

It would not be a problem to expose Weatherspoon to waivers because he is a free agent after the season. It would have saved the Falcons money if somebody did claim him but there would be no reason that for a team to do it.

A fragile Lee?
A player coming off an injury?
Wouldn't that be temping fate? What is the hurry? Our D will be bad with or without Lee.
There is an outside chance lee could be back fully rehabbed next season.
I am no hurry. I say, give him a full seasion to recover and hope for the beast.

If this team is in contention for a playoff spot without Lee, then they shouldn't rush him back.
If they make the playoffs, even without him, then one asks why do we need him even then. Well, because we will be playing better competition most likely. depending on how well we were playing at the time the playoffs start. did we play very well, or struggled to make it. Plus other teams will be ramped upped, we may need him.

If we got to the SB, and he's ready. Yes he can only help. Maybe not start him, but get him in there for some plays.

If we are making a run for the playoffs and we have another injury to a LB, fine. Otherwise let him sit.
