Just say no to UT DBs. I will officially start that bandwagon now.

That would be a really, really silly bandwagon...

Nathan Vasher has started 26 of 39 games for the Bears... he's started all but one game this year, and the Bears rank 2nd in the NFL in pass defense... the guy has 13 ints in his first 39 games...

You're right, he sucks...

Quentin Jammer has started the last 55 consecutivegames for the Chargers, with 8 ints... the Chargers rank 6th in the league in pass defense...

He's a waste of a draft pick...

Michael Huff has only started all 7 games at SS for the Raiders in this, his rookie season... and the Raiders rank FIRST in the NFL in pass defense...

Clearly, he has no game...

Hmmmmm, 3 Texas DBs, all of them starters, all of them playing on top-ranked pass defenses...

But hey, Cedric Griffin has only started one game for the Vikings as a rookie, and their pass defense is quite lousy, ranking 26th in the NFL...

Nope, can't see any reason why you wouldn't want a UT defensive back on your roster... they seem to come into the league NFL-ready, needing little time to earn a starting job... and their teams tend to play pretty good pass defense...

While I do not think much of the Pac 10, since it is a pass happy conference I would have to give the edge there to their CB's. Big 12 the exact opposite= outside of TT no one there knows how to pass much anyways.

And yet, there are 3 Texas DBs in the league right now that earned a starting job VERY early in their respective careers...

I nearly gotta say just stay away from all their defensive players, except for their line.

Ahhh, so you're just a Horns hater...

I'd say Derrick Johnson has had a pretty good start to his NFL career... he's started all 23 games of his NFL career, has racked up 141 tackles (over 6 a game), has 5.5 sacks, 7 passes defensed, has forced 4 fumbles, recovered 2 fumbles...

And after ranking 29th in total defense in 2003, 31st in 2004, 25th in 2005, the Chiefs are currently a top 10 defense (9th)...

I'd take DJ, Huff, Jammer and Vasher on my team any time...

I just think some of their guys got overhyped like Quentin Jammer. He was not a fluid guy. He was mostly a physical corner and didn't have much quickness. He had good straight line speed. You can do well with those skills in college, but the NFL rules really don't favor physical corners. A corner has to do more than just be physical.

And yet, Jammer has started his last 55 consecutive games for the Chargers... he is, in fact, their best corner...

I'm REAL happy to have Roy on our team, but if we had drafted Jammer instead, he would have been a solid acquisition for the Boys...

Has Huff done anything in his rookie campaign?

Started all 7 games, for the league's top-ranked pass defense (but part of the reason they rank that high is they're pretty easy to run against, so they lead the league in fewest passes attempted against them)...

:)... The UT DB's in the NFL have been doing fine if you ask me.

- Vasher has 13 INTs in 2 1/2 seasons in the NFL and a few touchdowns, sounds pretty good to me.
- Jammer has turned into a pretty fine corner, took him 3 seasons before being effective kinda like Newman. Jammer had 17 passes defensed last year and a pick. Already has 2 picks this year and has done a great job in pass coverage. Solid #1 CB...
- Roderick Babers was a bust a couple years ago but not alot was expected of him, being a 4th round pick and all. Every College has their fair share of busts.
- Michael Huff is already starting in his rookie year. Hasnt put up big numbers yet but hasnt been a liability in coverage either.
- Cedric Griffin has one interception playin in limited time as the nickel back. Has been beat a few times but has played really good at times.

Too me thats not a bad list of cornerbacks. Its not like Michigans track list of producing bad NFL WR's just to use for an example. Jammer hasnt totally lived up to his draft hype being the 5th overall pick in 02 and all but he is starting to come around.

Jammer is a solid contributor, but he has not lived up to his high draft status. That happens. He gets a parital bust label because of it, but it doesn't mean they should cut him or anything. Ellis never lived up to his draft status either, but is a solid player for Dallas.

Jammer is a bust. He has never shown to be a top CB as his draft status demanded. Newman was starting and excelling from day one. Still stand by my general analysis of Big 12 CB's. Many highly thought of ones frankly never make it.

Wait, You know Newman came out of the big 12 right? Newman struggled in his first couple years, not sure what you were watching. He took alot of pass interferences and consistently got beat in coverage. With that being said I dont think you can rag on any specific division of NCAA football for lack of talent. Its like that in every other division the majority of guys never make it in the NFL. thats just a fact. And to single out the BIG 12 alone shows that you have something against that division.

The BIG 12 is lucky to produce one 1st round cornerback a year so you cant say alot of players are highly "thought" of.

Texas recruits better than all of the other teams in the Big 12 and if you ask Oscar or any of the other recruiters/scouts for UT the talent they bring in these days are MUCH better than in previous years. Same goes for USC and a couple other programs. Players these days are just blessed with so much physical traits and what not.

I would put Texas on a whole nother level when it comes to producing NFL talent as opposed to putting them with the rest of the teams in the Big 12. None of those teams recruit like we do. And I dont think any of those other schools have produced 10 first rounders over the last 5 years either.

I don't know what team you were watching, but it did not ahve Newman playing on it. His rookie year he almost made the pro bowl. He did very well.
You make claims about him getting beat and lots of PI. I say show me some links that say that. I am waiting.

We are going to have to think about that in a year or two. Henry will be 30 soon, and Newman is 28.

Another great thought!
CB an area of concern???? Are you INSANE?????:bang2::bang2::bang2::bang2:

Some Cowboys fans are delusional. Who in their right mind worries about age with a 30 year old and a 28 year old CB duo.

Green played until he was 40.

But here we have people worried about a 28 and 30 year old. Yeah... we might only get 6-7 more years out of them. That would suck. We should draft one in Round 1 right now to get him ready when those guys retire 6-7 years from now.

Why is that some people act like they are "worried" or "concerned" unless we have 22 year old Pro Bowlers at every position and 21 year old Pro Bowlers as backups?

i would'nt say jammer is a bust. if you watch him this year he is a very solid cb. it took him some time to develope but now he is playing well. i think we put too much into what a guy does his first few years. it's what you do your whole career. some players just take time to develope.

Go look for links for yourself, I know what I saw and I dont need to prove anything to you. I have tapes from every Cowboy game since 2000 for better or for worse. Although Newman had 4 picks in each of his first two seasons he did get beat often and made some boneheaded plays. But im not argueing the fact that he has turned into a stellar cornerback.

Reeves looks pretty good; but is he anywhere near the quality of our starters? Untill Romo looked good we were thinking about QB in the first rd; maybe we need to think about CB.

If a great CB comes out I'm all for it, but we need to look to the offensive line very soon. The key it any offensive is the line. If Romo turns out to be a great QB, he won't be great without an offensive line!!!

Green was an exception. He never really lost a step late in his career. It would not hurt to look at corner in the 3rd or lower rounds in the next couple of drafts. It isn't a high priority, but it is good to stock pile good DBs.

I have been watching the boys since 1971. And you have no credibility at all untill you have some substance to back up your hot air.

Show me CB's today that are at the top of the NFL at age 33-34?
One or two out of many means nothing. Fact is that Henry is not that fast to begin with; so he cannot afford to lose any and still be a top CB. Newman we have a few years; but as I POINTED OUT Glenn is 34; Henry is 30. We have to start doing something about that pretty soon.
