He absolutely isn't wrong that often. He literally works at the Star and the official radio station of the team. He has sources on the team from previous friendships. He's not making things up, geez
I didn’t say he made it up. Geez…

I will stick with my opinion though that he is wrong more often than not.

The surgery that will save his leg will forever be known as Jourdan Lewis surgery

He may be confused because the original surgery would include a second procedure anyway to remove the screws
That’s typical but we shall see
Yeah this isn’t what he said. He said the first procedure didn’t go well

Never heard an encouraging thing about Joseph. Nothing about his work ethic. At this point he would have to really show me something to consider keeping him.
Yep. I’m not ruling out that he show something either… it would just really surprise me.

Last year when he had those chances to help after Brown got hurt and just completely flopped, I just mentally washed my hands of him. I played DB a lot and I can tell you that Joseph didn’t do one thing to help the defense out. Nothing. He just doesn’t have it.

But even then, I said that I would not let him see the field again in ‘22 and that I’d let him go if he hadn’t shown anything at the end of camp this season. So yeah, I’d give him this offseason and camp to surprise me… and maybe he can. I certainly hope so because it would help out what is already going to be a really good defense. I will absolutely go into training camp with an open mind, letting bygones be bygones.

However, I’m going to be floored if he shows up to camp ready to go and makes some strides. It will be a huge surprise to me.

Question- can Lewis be cut if he can’t pass the physical? Don’t know the details of his contract but sometime they are set up this way.

Agree. Wright is worthless, and Joesph is as well as a CB. Lewis all depends upon his recovery. Even at that I think he can be replaced.
But once Brown and Lewis were out, the defense took a step back.
Joseph may be saved by his ST's play. But do they wanted carry 2 players, in Joseph and Goodwin for ST's only, plus a 3rd in Turpin. Roster spots are too valuable to do that.

If Lewis struggles in TC, if he is not on PUP. My bet he will be. It is what the team does. Steele and Lewis will start tC on PUP.

Look for Brown to be signed if his recovery is ahead of Lewis. This is where the CB, Scott, they drafted can step up and show why they traded up for him.
Good post. But doesn’t Lewis have to be put on the initial 53 man roster or be cut?

If he's on PUP all training camp and pre-season then he does not have to be on the 53-man roster but can't play the first 6 weeks.

I don't believe he has an injury guarantee in his contract for 2023. It's usually stated on sites like Spotrac (ie: it states his 2022 salary was injury guaranteed).

Wright and Joseph going into year 3.
- If they can't win the 4th CB role then they might not be worth keeping other than Joseph on ST.
- I would try Joseph inside (slot).
- Mukuamu was the 3rd CB in the playoffs.

Rumor that they might flip Mukuamu and Wright this year.
- Mukuamu at CB.
- Wright at Safety.
- Which means they are tryin' to find some way to salvage Wright's roster spot and draft status - which means he headed towards 3rd rd. bust label.
If Joseph is your 5th and 6th CB (by default?) he's gonna have to be flexed at both slot or outside.
And if he is in that base defense it would be because of injury emergency.

- Izzy's flexibility at safety and CB (and playing both roles adequately) would mean that much pressure on Wright to make the team.

- KJ has lead special teams work as a key coverage gunner in his favor, but if another pleasant surprise such as rookies Eric Scott and/or Myles Brooks emerges
as both coverage and special teams, that's gonna press the team to make a decision on KJ.

- I think if it comes down to one of the two of Joseph and Wright,.. Wright is not likely to make the team.

- and yep, by default, once again CJ Goodwin will make the team- strictly based off special teams alone.

Hadn’t heard that.

Bland should be the starter at slot but I wouldn’t mind Lewis (if healthy) back as the 4th or 5th corner.
Problem is Lewis is really just a slot guy. The more ground he has to cover, the more he becomes that much exposed, the more he struggles.
He doesn't play big and beyond his size, and he cannot handle speed on the outside.

If we're forced to play Lewis outside, it'd be because injury has slammed us that hard til we have no choice.

But his experience and ball skills in the slot become a luxury if/should Bland himself gets hurt.

This why I was all for drafting a CB high. We have Diggs, Bland and Gilmore. After that we have trash and question marks. I will not be shocked if we re-sign Brown and/or bring in another vet from somewhere.

Lewis may not be ready for camp or even back at all for that matter! If he doesn't return to form he could be released for cap savings.
Joseph, so far is a bust. He hasn't grown at all and his only role is ST. IMO, he will be gone soon.
Wright hasn't developed to this point and there hasn't been any indication that he will this off season either. He is also on cut watch.
Mukuamu is a S and shouldn't be relied upon to play significant minuets at CB. I do think he has a place on this team though.
And to be honest, there are questions marks with the three starters as well.
Will Diggs be closer to a shut down CB, or will he resort to always trying for the INTs and go back to getting burned on double moves again? Will he continue to be a liability in run defense or will he start tackling?
Can Bland avoid the sophomore slump? Can he continue his development into a good slot CB? Can he be more than that?
Will Gilmore repeat his season from a year ago? Or will he go back to being just OK as in previous years? Will his 32 year old legs/body hold up for an entire season?

Lewis has his warts for sure. I’ve long said he’s been vastly overrated by our fans and that Bland should take his spot at slot. That said, I do think he has value over Wright in that we know Lewis can line up and play man slot. The same cannot be said about Wright; I’m not sure he can play anything but zone.

My gut tells me the odds favor Joseph maintaining a spot on the roster due to 1) sunk cost as a 2nd round pick; 2) his value on special teams; and 3) his upside and potential going into year 3

Does Diggs' pluses far out weighs his minuses ?
I can live with Diggs' questions when i see what he has become vs coverages. he shut down Vikes Jefferson, and teams were shying away
from attacking despite his rep and penchant to occasionally give up a big play, and now a distaste for tackling.
But no question, he's still a game changing presence.

- Gilmore isn't what he used to be pre-ACL, but he is still a very good coverage CB capable of the INTs. Teams could load up and go after Anthony Brown.
They won't make a living on Gilmore. But i believe he'll be age 33 this year, so this is short term and he only has a year left on this contract.
Another plus is Gilmore has a lot better support cast in Dallas now, that would boost his stock, imo.

- Bland is far more better in the slot than he is on the outside, but he has such a nose for the INT whether contested or off the ball.
And he is bigger and more physical than Lewis.

- When it comes to Izzy (Mukuamu) i'll leaving that to the coaches in deciding his role, position and what he fits best. Maybe he is a tall CB that has much better feet, agility
and knack for CB than the other very tall CB in Wright. He was a college CB with considerable size/speed ratio, but he wasn't considered the most physical player.
Maybe that has changed for the better ?

Brown is not “awesome” but he is better than a lot of CBs. He has some talent, it’s just that you would always like to upgrade from him if you get the chance.

I think they'll bring in another vet too, especially if Lewis isn't healthy, but that 3 is about as good as it gets in the NFL.

No team can withstand more than one injury to corners.
