Any updates on LVE's progress?

Vander Esch is taking 2nd team mike reps, Marinelli wants he and Jaylon to compete for it
should make Oxnard very interesting as Vander Esch learns more of the defense
it would seem assuming Lee stays healthy the loser might be your sam and rotate at mike

Hey Crazy Cowboy, last I heard was "Its a process".
That's about it at this point.

My sources are telling me he is at Rolondo McClain level.
By next week he will be Mike Singletary.
Best factor in a x's 3 into yer' sourced equation thar' uncle Jed! as my tribal scouts have been adamant in relaying as sucho_O

:starspin::starspin::starspin:

He looks awesome standing there in shorts!!!
lmao...yup...if that's a thing..then he meets the starting lineup criteria...a Garrett RKG . But seriously ..its just the first week of June folks. Good post..and to the point.

Position flex sounds good on paper, but we haven't had a lot of success with it. LVE and Jaylon should compete for the MLB job. If Jaylon loses out, he backs up Lee and LVE, as he is a natural Will anyways. I don't think we have a Sam on this team.

Irving and Crawford have both had success at DT. Hitchens and Lee have both had success at MIKE and WILL. Wilson failed but he also is a poor athlete. Collins played well at the 1.

Running second team MLB at the moment. By all accounts he looks as smooth as advertised given his size. Lee seems to be a big fan

Which one is it fellers? The ' Sam'
,,,or the* '1 tech' ,,,

Collins is a solid " ride the river with" any day,,,but wasn't it that 'Sam' position that kept crumpling up #50?

i think (just a guess of course) that they would like to move Jaylon around if he is truly healthy
Helman brought up a point about using him like Kris Richard did Bruce Irvin in Seattle, letting him play sam and edge or as Marinelli says rotate through mike to give your 3 starters around 10 snaps of rest in a game
anyway here is the quote from Marinelli

Through two weeks of OTAs, Smith has been functioning as the Cowboys’ primary middle linebacker. He runs with the first-team, while first-round draft pick Leighton Vander Eschhas primarily worked with the second-team.

“In a perfect world, you’ve got three guys to play two spots, for your nickel and base stuff,” said defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli. “And then you’ve got your SAM ‘backer – because that’s different. So you’re always looking.”

Marinelli makes a great point about the Cowboys’ linebacker depth. Injuries to Sean Lee, as well as Smith’s gradual recovery process, hindered the linebacker corps in 2017. Having three capable options to play the two primary positions makes sense.

But with Vander Esch being selected No. 19 overall, there’s been some speculation that Smith may kick out to the strong side position – a spot that has typically been manned by Damien Wilson.

Asked about that prospect, Marinelli didn’t rule it out, but said he wants to create competition at the starting spots for the time being.

“That’s maybe down the road as we go. Right now, we don’t want to move guys around,” he said. “We want to let guys compete for the starting jobs and do that. We want to keep the competition high, and we’ll see as we go.” -David Helman

also i agree about Jaylon natural as your will, when Lee is done its a given that he takes the position full time with Vander Esch a natural mike

Jaylon appears to be football healthy with the nerve, though maybe not perfectly recovered. He plays without a brace. He shared a freakish 20 yard shuttle time, which is just what he should have had problems with if drop foot was still an issue.

Recovered, he goes back to expectations of a top 5 pick player, now with a year of on the field experience, and 2 years off the field.

LVE is a guy we arguably reached a little for at 19, who has no nfl experience, and little collegiate experience.

Why would he be better than Jaylon at any LB position at this point?

The competition isn't for who gets what position, it's for who is on the field, and where best to put them, in different circumstances.

When it's two LBs, it should be Lee and Jaylon.
When it's three LBs, it's will be all of them.

Today, Jaylon is almost certainly the better MLB over LVE. Even more likely he's the better SAM. I love the rumored move of him to SAM.

Put his speed on an edge to protect an edge.
Put the bigger and slower player in the middle. It just makes sense, both individually and relatively, to put LVE in the middle and Jaylon on the edge - when they're both on the field at the same time.

When Lee retires, Jaylon should flip to Will and we keep LVE at MLB.
