Any word on Orton or any fines that might be building?

Agree. If his only motivation was to retire, why not just show up and not perform well. It's really difficult to perform up to NFL expectations even in practice. It wouldn't be difficult to just be a little off on all throws. Also, it would help his cause to show up fat and out of shape. They would be forced to cut him and he would get to keep all bonus money with no questions.

If he really wanted to screw them over, he could have waited until after game 1 and then started tanking in practice to the point that it appeared that he didn't have sufficient arm strength to play anymore. Then they would be on the hook for all of his 2014 base salary of 3.25M but would probably have to cut him.

He probably did the Cowboys a favor by not showing up. This allowed them to get Weeden and allowed Weeden to get significant practice time with the 1st team offense.

You are exactly right, what Orton has done really doesn't make too much sense in any light you look at it.

Correct if I'm wrong but isn't Orton just doing what many vets do, drag their feet into camp as late as possible? It seems like we've seen this before with other vets in the past and everybody freaks out and goes into panic mode, its the offseason.. lol

In regards to Rat's tweets, some stuff can be sent via private message or his twitter account can be private and exclusive to friends only. There are different ways to set up your account, just like Facebook...

Would it make sense if his real motivation was not to retire, but to get paid more. What if he demanded that if he had to actually start games that he wanted a significant pay raise? What if Orton and his Agent think the Cowboys are in a bind with Romo's iffy back situation and think they have leverage to get more money?

IMO, Orton's actions would make more sense if the above scenario was correct.

yeah, i got that. But someone said he tweeted Melton about the team. That would be public, no?

I don't think he said anything about twitter. I think they talked in person. The interview is probably available somewhere. I think it was on 103.3 ESPN-Dallas with Cowlishaw and Mosley.

Before Melton was deciding on a Cowboys possibility, Rat had tweeted him negatively about the Cowboys.

When Melton then was deciding upon whether or not to pursue the Cowboys, Rat again tweeted him negatively about the Cowboys.

Out of a respect, Melton would not divulge further, beyond stating that it was all negative from Rat.

This revealed in an interview of Melton.

It was the post above that mentioned the tweet -- I didn't get that from the interview either which is why I was questioning it. I expect if this was a Twitter conversation that someone would have caught that and posted it.

As X stated, this came out during a radio interview. Melton stated that Rat had contacted him twice, before Dallas became an issue, and when Melton was deciding his own actions. Both times, per comment of Melton, the communications were not positive.

Somebody did a transcription of the radio interview:

Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Henry Melton, who signed with the team this off-season, joined "The Afternoon Show with Cowlishaw and Mosley" on KESN-FM 103.3 on Wednesday. Here are some highlights from the interview:

On his health and if he will be doing full conditioning July 22 at training camp:
Melton: “I will be doing the conditioning test but it’s pretty much up to them if they want to have me full go. But I don’t think I’ll be full go, but I’ll definitely be in the mix. … I’m pretty much 100 percent confident for the (season opener against the) 49ers I’ll be definitely ready.”

On DeMarcus Lawrence having to replace DeMarcus Ware:
Melton: “You know what, he looks really good. I never practiced with D Ware or anything, but I definitely saw him play. But he has some comparisons. He has the size and he definitely has the athleticism. He just needs to work on his techniques and getting his rookie legs under him.”

On going to Mavericks and Stars playoffs games and embracing all the sports:
Melton: “I’m from here so I’m just a Dallas fan at heart for sure; I even go to the Rangers games. I was a baseball fan growing up. And I just got into hockey because of the Blackhawks in Chicago and from going to those games, I kind of brought it down south with me and it just happens that the Stars got into the playoffs and I was excited to go.”

On having a mix of veterans and younger guys on the defense, and how that helps:
Melton: “Yeah there’s going to be a big mix. I feel like we are — there’s a lot of young guys. We don’t have very many veterans, but there’s going to be a big mix, so it’s definitely going to be fun to watch.”

On if he spoke with former Dallas Cowboys player Jeremiah Ratliff while the two of them were with the Bears for the end of the 2013 season:
Melton: “You know what, he knew I was from there and I think he thought I said something about the Cowboys. He did talk to me about the cowboys before he even knew I was considering coming here, and then he talked to me again when I was considering coming here. You know what, I’m not really at liberty to say what he said about the Cowboys. But it wasn’t too good.”

That might be.

But, Mr. Orton, don't make it your team's problem.
We half lots going on aside from guessing what your problem is Mr. Orton, or how to replace you or not.

Well if Romo is fine it's no biggie, also we pick up Brandon Weeden. In the end I would have expect Weeden or Orton to get us no more than 8 wins.

This is my thought as well. Indirectly, his douchebagedeness should benefit the team as Weeden is better off for it...I still say that if Orton plans to just not show up, then you fine him the max and make him the last cut possible before the team has to have final rosters....recoup as much from him as possible and then forget about the bonus money he owes....the team should not plan on him being there to start the season and thus, they owe him 2014 salary as well

I understand that. I'm asking why you thought he contacted him via Twitter.

How do today's NFL casual acquaintances communicate today...and the media of connection never was an issue...unless one is attempting to seek high ground through poking at really insignificant levels of information. (coughing) three times...

The meat of that exchange was presented three times and at that point, obvious as to information of relevance. I'm not much into gossip, and the people involved didn't further differentiate.

But privacy was an issue stated by Melton, so thus endith the reading of the events. No further relevance was offered. Ratliff has not offered insights of being a Benedict Arnold, but for the record, I didn't consult with wives either.

Either way, Ma' Bell was used for conversation or tweet. Go figure the magnitude of importance there...tool of choices.

Actually the media of connection is an issue. If this were via Twitter there would be a public record. That's why I was asking as the medium would allow us more details.

You know either's account? I don't twitter. I don't own a cell phone.
