Yes I went back and watched Mazi. Way better than last year, but I’d say average to above average performance

This is probably true.

Annoying that this is probably his ceiling now, because he's shown nothing as a penetrator, but it is what it is. He can be a useful player this way.
We don’t need a penetrator in the middle. I don’t think we want Aaron Donald Jr out there more like Vince Wolforks long lost son

The defensive interior was good. I think Jordan Philips did a good job despite the post about him not doing well. Whoever played in the interior did well clogging the middle and collapsing the pocket.

Yep.. If Mazi turns out to be a younger version of Snacks or Hankins that will be just fine. People mad cause he was drafted too high.. that's their problem.
But, realistically, with what we know, Mazi is a 4th project if at all.

From what I saw of Mazi I thought he looked okay. Saw him get some good push a couple times on pass plays and the middle seemed to plug up pretty well against the run.

If Mazi is in the game and you don’t notice him— it likely means he is doing his job.

You only notice 1Ts when they are moved off the ball and the gaps are enormous up the middle in the running game and our LBs are on roller skates getting blocked by OL on the second level
100%, he still didn't play a lot of snaps in this game but those he did seemed to holdup fine.

Situation where not hearing his name is a good thing. He didn't do anything spectacular, but didn't screw up either.

Nobody in their right mind would make that trade.

Teams like plugs who can just occupy space because there aren't enough penetrators in the league, is all.

We have pass rushers. I’ll take a run stuffer. We’ve been knocked out of the playoffs many times due to our run defense.
Run stuffers don't matter. Winning the numbers advantage does.

You can't do that when you can't cover anybody - see Buffalo and Green Bay.

I know he started the game, but I sure don't remember seeing him much at all. I don't remember even seeing him make one play even. He plays one of those positions that you don't always notice - sometimes thats good too. You don't want to notice him or hear his name too much because that can mean penalties or getting beat often. So maybe he did his job well, and I just didn't notice with all the defensive stars shining.
What were your opinions on Mazi yesterday ?
I didn't really pay much attention to him in particular but he had a 30.0 PFF grade for the game which was by far the worst on the team and probably one of the worst in the league for the entire week.

That would indicate he was pretty bad even in the limited snaps he played. I will have to watch a play by play breakdown of his performance to see if the eye test agrees.

For people to be claiming that "not noticing him at all is a good thing" is insane. Regardless of position, do you "not notice" any player that isn't a total JAG throughout an entire game? No.

Mazi is a replacement level talent.

That fact that you didn't notice is probably more of a good thing then bad. We're they able to run the ball of.the middle!?

Yep. I didn’t notice us getting gashed up the middle.

He has not been asked to be a pass rusher at this point.

This sounds like Dan Quin level defense...that didnt seem to work against a team that could run the ball and use play action..
