Anybody have an observation about Quinn's philosophy of getting to the passer?

His plan is likely what they did in Seattle
Let good players play
It’s now on the GM to get those good players

Yeah, McCarthy says not much is changing on defense, so I'm optimistic for sure.
You mean we still will be bystnders rushing the passer in our defense alignments. For once I would like to see us become a pressure defense forcing defensive plays like the end of last year. Too much to ask?

The important part of what you highlighted is the context of it, which is what I highlighted.

He said what is important to build off is "our ability to take the ball away." The laymen's terms or "to the naked eye" is that the casual fan isn't going to really notice a difference because many of the things we'll be doing are the same as schemes that Nolan or any other defensive coordinator uses, especially those who emphasize turnovers. There are things that are going to be the same, especially with the last half of the season when we started to pull back on a lot of the complications that Nolan added. That does not mean it isn't going to be Quinn's scheme. There's a relation between what Quinn likes to do and what Nolan likes to do.

It's really silly to think that Quinn came here (when McCarthy said he was in demand) and McCarthy wanted him to come here to run someone else's scheme. Quinn's scheme is closer in relation to Marinelli's scheme while some of the back-end coverages are closer in relation to Nolan's schemes. He also mixes in some 3-4 elements that are more closely aligned with Nolan's schemes.

Again, in the last line of the quote, McCarthy talks about "the diversity of some of the systems" with Quinn and his staff. You don't mention the diversity of the systems if the plan is to simply use the system that's put in place. I think you are looking at what McCarthy too simply based on it not being " a start-over situation." It isn't like we're going from a 3-4 to a 4-3 or vice versa. There's a lot of cross over in what the two coaches prefer.
I think by design we won't know what McCarthy and Quinn plan on putting on the field on defense until it's actually on the field doing what it does in our first regular-season game.

With all these new safeties and FA signings..meaning we are going to be blitzing more.is Aldon Smith now considered a pass rush specialist type player if he returns which I would hope happens.

I used to barf at how little Marinelli blitzed to pressure the other team.He was a Freaking dinosaur as DC and happy if Quinn changes things up.i am assuming our new Safeties are going to be coming on 3rd downs now. Hope so. Anybody have an observation about Quinn and his philosophy of getting to the passer. Seems to me a couple of seasons back Quinn's defenses looked like a freaking jail break at times.

Waiting for my answers.Take your time. I got 30 days before the draft.

You know it’s 50-50. Half the fans believe it’s the front line getting to the quarterback that helps the backfield. And the rest feel it’s just the opposite. I think Quinn is on the backfield helps the line. Will have to see

If Quinn adjusts for personnel, I think that's a safe bet. It's easy to say we want the Legion of Boom, but that doesn't mean we'll ever have the personnel to pull that off.

You win on defense starting in the trenches. If you can not stop the run, you can not get opportunities to rush the passer. If you can not rush the passer, you can not stop the pass.

If you can not stop the run or pass, you will have the results of the 2020 worst defense in Cowboys history (in my years of watching the Cowboys since 1966).

Having the need to blitz means you failed on the DL. Having the want to blitz is situational. Blitzing to have a pass rush will be another poor Cowboys defense.

I remember back when the Dez non-catch game with Green Bay was played. I think Dallas was down by 3 points and had Green Bay at 3rd and 30 yards. Dallas rushed 3 and Rodgers had all day long to run around, and after about 5 minutes of scrambling he throws a 35 yard completion, letting Green Bay eat the clock and score another 3 points. Seemed like Dallas did that prevent defense several times that year and gave up lots of 3rd and long plays to the opponents. That kind of call makes me sick.

We need an aggressive defense, period.

All coaches are secretive. Very rarely do they give any useful information. They give the pressers because the league mandates it and the league makes money off of them. You can tell the coaches hate doing it.

Why people watch these mindless pressers or care is beyond me. Process. Stacking. Need to watch the tape. Better execution in all three phases. Blah, blah, blah.
I used to tickled when the press would ask Parcells if he was gonna do this or that in a certain game. Like he was gonna tell them anything.

If you do not have the players you must take what you have and change the scheme to fit. We shall know about Quinn early in the season. So we wait.

I like bringing the blitz from time to time but I also understand those who live by the blitz die by the blitz. Cowboys must be able to generate a pass rush using the down 4 with Gregory and Dlaw coming off the end.

With Tarell Basham being added to the fine pass rushers already in house, I'm especially encouraged to see this defense showing signs of having a major upturn in the pressure that our d-line should exert. It's even more so, if another pass rusher is added via the draft. Take heart -- we've got this! :)

MM says not much is going to change on defense?

I can't envision Quinn having DLaw stand up.

I certainly hope not anyway. He may have played ok as the season went on but he didn't seem comfortable.

I suppose three years can be an eternity in the NFL, but the goal should be nothing shy of getting 90, 94 along with 54 and 55 playing at the level they were in late 2018.

If they can pull that off with the current offense, the team has a real chance to be good.
