Falcons got cute late.

Like we got cute at times in that GB game.

I get that you don't want to be predictable but at some point you have to play it smart. Atlanta very likely would have won if they had played it safe there at the end and run three times and taken the 3 points. Also would have ran about 30 seconds or more off the clock. Then NE is down 11 with 3 minutes or less.

We have a team that can run and smash you in the mouth.
Need to use and abuse that... especially towards end of games.

1st and 10 at the NE 22 with 4 minutes left and an 8 point lead and you LOSE.

That GB loss was so tough and I'm still not over it, but I don't know how you could EVER put this loss behind you if you're a Falcons player or fan. It would eat away at me forever.

This.

Brutal. Epic loss of all SB losses.

Worse than a complete blowout.

The fashion in which they lost............I'm speechless.

I don't think they're talking about the GB game or this season specifically..........................Dallas has had seasons of shooting themselves in the foot.

Dwelling on or identifying with failure is not conducive to success either. this is doubly so when the things you are fixating have evolved.

Both Garrett's in game management and the defense are not that bad anymore. We don't have a starting QB made of glass and our coverage in the secondary improved dramatically.

Garrett doesn't ice his kicker anymore. Romo and his back is not going to get fractured in a Cowboys uniform again. Drake Nevis, Ernie Sims, and Cam Laurence are not playing 50 snaps in a game. Guys like Church, Wilcox, Lee, Hitchens, and Claiborne have improved.

Our achilles heel no doubt is our pass rush and to a lesser extent WR depth but that is a far cry from where the squad was at a few years ago when we had no talent on defense and question marks at most of the skill positions.

You think the Atlanta offense went into safe mode?

I can't turn on the radio or TV without everyone saying they "should have" gone into safer mode, but didn't.

It's the old argument between playing to win and playing not to lose.

in Falcon colors? Maybe someone touched on this, if so, my apologies. Team plays well, O gets us a lead, D over achieves. O goes into safe mode, D falls apart when most needed, Coaches choke it up and make horrid calls and QB makes critical mistakes down the stretch. That's the Cowboys way for the past 20 years.

No. Its hard to win in this league. This things happen. It hurts us when happens to our boys, but its really hard to win in this league.

EDIT: I agree 100% on the tought that ATL gave the game away. Too many mistakes.

I don't think the OP is dwelling at all.

I just think the observation was made and it correlated, IMO, with previous Cowboy seasons.

Last year was Straight up incredible and I hope it rolls into the next several years.

Dallas can become relevant again.

Nothing this team has ever done has ever come close to what we witnessed last night.

The closest I can think of would be the Detroit loss a few years ago. Even then..that's the regular season.

Sure he is. You admit that what he is referring to happened years ago. He clearly saw a choking loss and identified the Cowboys with it despite that type of thing not happening this year.

It is what it is. If that is not dwelling than what is?

I used a poor choice of words there. Instead of "safe mode" I should of said "stupid mode". They should have used safe mode.

As for this season, Dak rarely made critical mistakes down the stretch at the end of games.

An observation?

That's the way I read it, anyway.

No the defense went in to safe prevent and the offense was playing like they were down by 20. Snapping the ball with 20 seconds left on the clock, passing the ball instead of running it

That is not mutually exclusive with it being a fixation. It is also not so much an observation but a recollection. Re-observing bad things that happened years ago is fixation.

In general bringing up old irrelevant **** is fixating. You are not arguing that is not the case.

Dallas has been strong on offense and weak on defense for a long time now, so there will be certain similarities. Too often the offense has gotten Dallas a lead only for the defense to blow it in the last seconds or make it where the offense is forced to try to score in the last couple of minutes or so.

Close games lead to the coaches choking it up at times and making horrid calls, and also to QBs making critical mistakes at times. However, I don't think either of this have been epidemic. The bad calls and mistakes just stick with fans more than the good calls and, even more so, clutch play by the QB, which far outnumber the mistakes.

I said the same thing in the game thread. I feel bad for Atlanta fans, we have been watching the same type of stuff from JG the last 10 years. Snatching defeat from the hands of victory. Last night was situational football 101 from that 3rd and 1 onward and Atlanta's coaching staff came up small. You always hear it is the coaches job to put their players in a position to win, they failed at that miserably.

- Passing on 3rd and 1 with a big lead and Matty Ice holding it forever and doing the absolute one thing you cant do there, turn it over. The first down would of been nice but they really didn't need one there. Just punting would of made it almost for NE to win impossible with the amount of time left.

- Snapping the ball with 20 seconds left on the clock up by 8 with 3 to 4 minutes left?

- Passing when you are up 8 with 3 minutes left, on NEs 25 with one of the better kickers in the NFL?
Yeah I was watching routinely snap the ball with way too much time on the clock and Shanahan supposed to be all that but how could he have not been in his quarterbacks ear

Atlanta last season. We have seen some seriously bizarre losses the last 5 years.

my .02¢... Pats get 2 super bowls on play calling blunders. #1 Seatle has a beast of a runner and they pass on the 1 yd line and then #2 yesterdays debacle of not running it up the middle 3x's... field goal... game over Atlanta Champs. There is no excuse for this type of play calling in the biggest game of your life. The boys have been suspect of questionable play calling in the past, let's hope that's behind us. Get them some pass rushers and we'll be seeing you in Super Bowl LII !

I didn't watch any of the conference championship round, and only watched the 4Q/OT of the Super Bowl.

That Green Bay game did me in for the rest of the season. I hated football for a little bit haha. Gut wrenching.
