How many quarterbacks drafted in the first round sit for a year or two? Wait! How many teams trade up in the draft, potentially to a top 10/5 pick, and sit their qb a year or two?

Everyone wants to be able to let these qbs marinate, but when youre tradin away the draft and key players for a 2nd stringer, youre not going to have a good time.

Romo has atleast 4 good years left. I would bet in most of those years you could trade up for a top ten qb. So maybe.. tap the breaks a bit and let Romo lead us to consecutive double digit win seasons. I would say more, but the future gets hazy after that.

4 good years? idk he has been injuried what the past 3 years? 2 back surgery's in one year. Already has a weak arm. Orton arm looked stronger. IDK if romo will even be playing in 4 years. IF he keeps getting injuried like this he might call it quits sooner than later. He does have a wife and kid. Romo doesn't look like young Romo who use to get super excited. Now we get alittle fist pump and walk to the bench. Romo use to run down the field and congratulate and get hype with the guy. I mean drafting a qb to sit for a year or 2 isn't bad. Ask the packers.

i agree. id rather have one than not if Romo cant go and orton gets hurt. I really dont see 4 more yeras for romo. Even if the current back issue doesnt flare up he will be taking other hits and is likely to develop more chronic issues from wear and tear. I think your going to see more missed time from him every year. Maybe 3 games next year, 5-6 the year after that.

If you can get a QB you really like at 17 in this draft i would do it and draft dfense with the rest of the picks

Funny.. I was going to bring up Rodgers...

He was drafted 24 overall, the packers didn't trade anything for him. in this case, we would be

Romo has no problem with his excitement level, you are just remembering him when we were 13-3. We go 13-3 again and he will be moon walking.

I wont predict his injury future. Hopefully you are wrong?

Players like this don't come too often. Now that we are a perpetual 8-8 team is the time we can land No. 15 or so and work our way up to draft this guy. 2nd round grade? I don't think so.

I be thinking of the future. Bortles (like most rookies) will need to sit a couple of years before seeing consistent action. And after two years Romo will be . . . 36.

Should we wait for another sterling kind of QB like Bortles for another two years or so and then half him ready to play when Romo is . . . 38. The future is now, Jerra. Be bold and stock up with a QB who will be ready in 2016.

I agree Dallas needs to consider a QB of the future very soon, though I believe it will definitely be next year because Jerry is not ready to invest a high pick in a QB so shortly after handing out 55 million guaranteed and Orton still has one year left fully guaranteed and this organization will not want to carry three QBs with so many holes on the defense and several players with histories of injuries. We should all be praying Romo's back holds up going forward.

Also this was not McShay or Kiper or some other glorified draft expert with no background in the game but the actual NFL advisory board meant to help players decide if they should enter the draft or not. I am sure they polled just a couple GMs before notifying Mr Bortles that he had a second round grade. You mentioned using much more than our first round pick to get this kid and I'm not ready to compromise the team future and overall talent by drafting a QB from UCF too early.

He is rising fast and should dominate his workouts too. He could go Top-10

Solid prospect but not worth a top 5 or even top 10 pick right now imo. I think he'd benefit from sitting for a year or two behind a veteran and learning the game. If he's thrust in as a starter immediately with high expectations, I could see him struggling and burning out.

This was the only game I have ever really watched Bortles play. Wasn't impressed like I had hoped.

If the Cowboys don't draft a quarterback this year or next, then there's going to be a very big hole in the not too distant future.

Teams seem to take more chances in the first round or top 10 on guys that don't appear to be solid prospects any more. Or guys that don't have a lot of history to base a complete evaluation from. Cam Newton played one season and went #1. Ryan Tannehill didn't even start two full seasons at QB and went high. Blaine Gabbert came out of know where to be a high pick. EJ Manuel went in the first round, which shocked me. Since teams are no longer hamstrung with huge rookie contracts like the one Sam Bradford got from the Rams they are more free to gamble on QBs. Bortles may not be a solid prospect, but teams may not care. It wouldn't surprise me if a team drafted Bortles in the top 10.

We don't need the QB position. An injured choker coming back from surgery who will be 34 soon?

You really don't belief in the future, huh?
Let's invest all we half NOW to win a Super Bowl with Oh No, right? Yeah, that will work!

Let's quit going down that path of 8-8 with a QB that is incapable of winning more than 1 playoff career game. Great individual stats, yes, but that will look pretty only in his scrapbook.

You make me so mad!!!!!

yawn.

you used to be somewhat interesting before you fell off the end of the earth about Romo...

I don't think romo is ready to concede that he can't take a team past the regular season and will be thowing picks at the worst times for 2 more years.

Thus a qb, even a gifted one, sitting on the bench for a couple of years. Iffin you want the apocalypso, yeah, start a rookie at QB and be ready to be 7-1 at midseason. That is just the way it works.

Yes, ever draft pick is golden and we draft so well I would not want to burn ANY of our draft picks or any veterans who are so good as well.

And if I may say so, you were never interesting. So i half more time in the sun than you.

But as I half fallen off the end of the earth . . . yet you take the time to write. How appealing and endearing of yew.

And sorry about Romo. He is the best QB money can buy, yet we still in front of our teevees watching the Eagles and other lesser teams play. good luck with your boy, romo.

I watched every game he started. Great, great young man off the field and an amazing knack for making a big play at the right time on it. Concerned about his turnovers though, he fumbles a fair amount and can throw the ball in places that he will not get away with in the NFL. He would need a good supporting cast around him to be successful right away next year.
