Anyone else feeling our rookies hitting the wall?

Well, it's to be expected.

If you look at our team, especially on defense, it's amazing the number of rookies we have.

Ware
Spears
Burnett
Canty
Pepper Johnson
Ratliff

Barber
Petitti

And I'm probably forgetting a player or two.

This team is definitely headed in the right direction, however. We are a LB and FS away on defense, and on offense we need a healthy Flo and one more weapon, plus a FG kicker.

This game was an abberation.

I like BP,,,but I question whether the staff and BP are really that good at coaching rookies......our Vets for that matter.

I'd say they have... If you notice the D started going down about 4 games ago, generally when most of the rookies have finished their College seasons.

Hopefully they can get their mojo back, but I won't hold my breath

How many games did Merriman miss plus preseason?

Merriman played great vs. the Colts for sure.

But the point I'm making is that we're running a new defense with a lot of talented, but inexperienced players. On top of that, we don't yet have the LBs to best play this defense.

I think our defense will only improve next year.

Exactly!! And this thread isn't about Merriman and it isn't just about Ware. It's about ALL the rookies on the Cowboys...

Well....

Looking over this season.....our Rookies...especially...Ware and Spears...have been average....I watched probally 75% of the games and they don't seem to be difference makers to me.

Could be coaching....Zimmer does that to a player.....but my expectations were alot more....

btw...who did we draft in the second round again?

Canty not being 100% hurts; but losing AL and DAT have pretty much castrated our LB corps. Ware and James are not able to do it all; Fujita is up and down; and Burnett is just starting to figure it out. That is one of the main reasons our rush D now sucks.

Seems as though Ware has definitely leveled off a few weeks ago. I thought Spears was doing a bit better, but Burnett has a ways to go. Canty was probably playing the best of the rookies the past couple of weeks.

That said, I think Petitti played o.k. vs. the Chiefs and relative to our other OL, did o.k. today (which isn't saying much).

I never thought I would write this, but losing Dat seems to taken the aggressiveness away in the middle. He is small, but he shot inside through the gaps and made plays against the run either at or behind the line of scrimmage. NO one is stepping up.

I don't really know what it is, but it seems like we have started hot under Parcells every year, and cooled as the season progressed.

I've always wondered about that.

Ware hit the wall a long time ago...I have hopes for him, but he doesn't do much for us on any consistant basis.

If Ware went unblocked into the backfield as often as Merriman was today you would see him on the highlight reels as well.

I completely agree. James, Shanle, and Fujita are just not as quick to the ball or as quik to make a decision as Dat. By the time the make up thier minds what to do the play has progressed beyond the point of them being able to make an impact.

I know BP needs the bigger bodies to fullfill his vision of big strong prototype LB's but I'll take a faster, smaller baller over a big strong goofball anytime.

So, are you saying that we don't put Ware in a position to make a play?

If you are, I would agree.

If you've noticed, SD has Merriman rush from a stand-up position a lot which seems to really benefit him. Ware seems to always rush from the RE position with his hand on the ground going up against LT's which is a huge mismatch right now. Ware has very few pass rush moves from what I've seen and LT's eat him up. Ware would probably do a lot better rushing from a stand-up position using his speed and athleticism.
