Anyone else find the Texas Longhorn DB coach hire Strange

Don't get me wrong but the fact that Akina up and went to AZ the day after Jerry Gray's season with the Seahawks came to an end, is bizarre. It is very un-Mack like.

I love this hire! Gray took a position less than what he is quailified for. I really would have thought of Gray as DC. His defenses with the Bills were top 5 in the NFL. Which begs to question of why didn't he get another shot at DC in the NFL?

Just my thoughts. Would like to hear from some of the other Longhorn fans and their opinions.

Akina was never going to get a chance to be the DC or HC at Texas. He was the co-DC a few years ago and did poorly. If he has aspirations of moving up the ladder, it was a good move to make a lateral move now.

Gray is a good hire. I've mentioned before that I thought Texas should go after him. I am surprised they could get him as just the DB coach, but he will probably take over as the DC at some point.

That's what I'm reading into the whole thing. I just wonder if Mack forced him to move on, like the Jeff Madden or Bobby Kennedy thing, or if Akina really moved on. Also, Texas made the announcement of Akina to AZ, not AZ announcing it. And to my knowledge still hasn't offically made the announcement. The time between Seattle losing and Akina quiting and Gray being hired, were just hours.
I think this was a great hire! Maybe the best off-season hire so far, IMO. I'm hoping we can still nail down the DB recruit from OK, Josh Turner.
