Anyone else really excited about our defense?

As much as I am excited about Jason Garrett unleashing Tony Romo, and utilizing T.O.

I am even more excited for what the new coaching staff has in store for our young defensive talent. I think this team has the potential to be the best defense in the league, especially if we sign Ken Hamlin.

There isn't a player on the defense that I don't see improving vastly under Phillips. I honestly don't know which player I'm most excited about.

In no order though this is my top 5

Roy Williams
Chris Canty
Marcus Spears
Greg Ellis
Kevin Burnett

I would like to sneak Bobby Carpenter in there too.

Spears is the guy who really needs to step up. I think the rest will do fine- but he needs to shut his mouth and put out.

I think people will be talking about Ware in hushed and reverent tones in 2007.

Oh, I also think Hatcher is going to have an impact and Watkins too.

I hope Ellis comes back 100% this year. He's the heart of the defense and his leadership is priceless. When he got injured, they just weren't the same afterwards. I'd like to draft Jarvis Moss 6-6 260 to eventually replace Ellis 6-6 270. They are very similar in size and I think Moss can take over the SOLB fulltime in 2008. It would be nice if Ellis can stay around as a backup pass rusher like Jeffcoat did, but in this day and age it probably won't happen.

Hear! Hear! I've been excited about many of these players for some time now. Now, I can finally be excited about the scheme they're playing in.

I'm not excited about Bradie James having a starting position and I'm not excited about our best pass-rusher other than Ware coming off a major injury.

I want to see us blitz and I want to see it work, but if you don't have the players to make it work, I'm not sure the results will be too exciting.

I'll reserve the right to be excited. I'm not saying it ("it" being improved defensive play) is necessarily so, but Wade gives us reason to look forward rather than to the past (15 years). I'm not naive enough to overlook our deficiencies i.e. ILB, but I'll continue to think that whether it be through the draft or scheme, the play in that position will have been improved come football season.
