that's like building a stormceller after the tornado has destroyed your home. the draft will not solve all our secondary problems. i said this last year and got these same responses. and look how it all turned out.
Then your way must be jumping in the tornado because you thought it was going to get you anyway.

Im not confident with the "present" status of the secondary, havent been for the past 3 years, but Im certainly not freaking out in March .
Reeves is who he is, and in saying that, we may look back when his career is over, and say .. "ya, Reeves was a decent nickle corner, or MAYBE just maybe, we will witness a young corner turn into something special.
Im betting on the decent nickle back myself.
Hes gone because Houston coughed up 25 mil for this guy,, are you kidding me?
We can find an upgrade cheaper than that, either in the draft or after June 1st, no problem, so in saying that,, No Im not that concerned, no more than usual.
This team isnt in the posistion of a Houston, where we can afford to play the wait and see game with certain guys, and thats a good thing. We are a much better team, that is so very close, within a couple pieces, and upgrade at the #3 corner, #3 WR, #2 RB.
All the other components are in place NOW, thats why Reeves isnt here, and probably Hurd, Austin, etc, after the draft is completed and June 1st arrives.
Its all about improving just a few components now, and with a little more polish applied to a few other young guns with another year under their belt, this team will be a favorite again this season, easily!

Why does FA end up getting everyone overly-excited to begin with?

It's overrated anyways-with maybe no more than 2 impact players, and Samuel was nothing more than media-made anyways. And for that matter, Florence is a penalty-machine.

FA is exciting when its a good FA crop, Im just not overly excited about this years FA class, esp. when you look at how much money is being handed out.

Samuels is a good example. Im betting that he benefited from the "system", employed zone scheme.
Lets see how he plays in man.

if by "he knew the system" you mean played 10 yards off the ball and waited til they completed the ball to make a play then yes he def knew the system

Yeah, of course the Cowboys could use another high quality corner, but I don't think it is the screaming, must address sort of need that so many fans seem to believe.

For the past two consecutive years, the Cowboys have been bounced from the playoffs by teams who had injury depleted secondaries. In these two loses, the Cowboys defenses played pretty well, but the Cowboys offense simply couldn't score enough (over 21) points.

If you look at their last two playoff game loses, what the Cowboys lacked was offensive fire power. I've got absolutely no problem with Jerry Jones wheeling and dealing for a game changing offensive player.

Yep-Jim Johnson may be a brilliant defensive mind, but nonetheless, you can only deal with the cards given to you.

All this talk how "A Superior Pass Rush will cover up deficiences in the secondary" is nothing but a myth-our pass rush was VERY good last year, but why did we have to play more zone than usual? B/c Newman/Henry were banged up, and Reeves is nothing more than your Cover 2 corner. For that matter, the Giants' secondary is actually pretty good with Ross and an improved Webster.

Pt being that ALL elements have to work.

LOL, Ive always found that amusing as well.
Its just basic rules of the game. You have to get after the QB to get the picks, and you have to cover well enough to get the sacks.

I love how people have to exaggerate try to make a point. Anthony Henry has averaged 14+ games over his career and has never played less than 12. If we use a 1st on a CB we'll be fine and we can worry about Newman and Henry next year when the cap goes up again.

I think the Cowboys front office realizes they need to upgrade the CB situation and that is why they let Reeves walk. They will make some changes either thru the draft and/or FA.

I'd like to be able to get a CB with one of our two first rounders, if the value is there. With Newman, Henry and a first rounder, we should be fine at CB.

Yea let's just come back with this same team and lose again in the first round. you people are just unreal. it's going to take any rookie corner time.

Im not that worried I think we will draft a couple of good ones in day 1 of the draft, and should contribute on nickel and dime packages, and Henry should be pretty solid next year.... I think Newman is one of the best in the game so we will be ok

What is there to worry about?

The only thing that has changed is that Jacques Reeves is gone.

To me, anyone we get to replace him will be an improvement.

Nate Jones is a free agent, but he too is replaceable.

After April, this won't be an issue. I expect one early and maybe another one or even two later in the process.

You mean like Everson Walls an undrafted FA rookie corner who started for the Cowboys in 1981 and went to the NFC Championship game?

Or do you mean like Larry Brown a 12th round draft pick who started for the 1991 Cowboys and won a playoff game in Chicago?

Or do you mean like Kevin Smith a rookie CB, who started most of the games for the Cowboys in 1992 and won a superbowl?

Yeah, you've proved your point.

Rookie corners can't compete in the NFL.

Haha, owned.

Honestly, as long as we draft somebody, I'm good.
