Anyone else's expectations for 2010 higher than for 2009 season?

Ridiculous post.

"About the same 8-8....need luck...."
What are you talking about? What "luck" did we need? Sweeping Philly? Winning in New Orleans? We didn't need luck or help! Did you miss this past season or something and are going back to 2009 pre-season "realism"?
We were 11-5, won the division and had a great playoff win.
Yesterday sucked, but it doesn't negate what happened prior to that game.
Your posts get worse by the second.

We did need luck. We were lucky to be this healthy, we were lucky that Miles Austin became what he did, we were lucky Romo matured to a degree, we were lucky Doug Free played well, we were lucky Igor Olshansky worked out, etc.

None of those things were certainties when the season began. Cowboys fans make me want to vomit.

No.

They're about the same. 8-8 or 9-7 team that will need luck to get into the playoffs. At some point they will be whipped in a way that'll embarrass Cowboys fans everywhere. Maybe just maybe, that'll prompt some change, but don't count on it.

I agree. This club is headed in the wrong direction..

oh yeah, my expectations for next season are friggin soaring....wanna know why ? Jerry is still the GM, the GM who makes that trade for Roy Williams.... Wade is still the coach, the coach who goes for a 48 yd. field goal with 4th and 1 on the opponents 30 when he knows the kicker is no good beyond 45 yds....Garrett is still the OC, the OC who is trying to run Norv Turner's offense from the early 90's except we dont have troy/emmitt/irvin....we put players on the field accoring to their contracts instead of production (Barber and Williams)...add this all to the fact that in addition to barber and roy williams we still have underachievers like newman, barby carpenter, crayton, brookings....yeah, the future's so bright I have to wear shades...Jerry gets to pretend he's a real football man for another year.

The feeling is mutual, trust me.

We were just as "lucky" as anyone else.

So is Austin going to suck again, Romo de- mature?

Oh and when was the last time the team went 8-8? Please.

Again, no one knows the status of these teams and where they will be. Yeah it looks hard right now but we don't know how hard it will be. You also have to know WHEN we play these teams.

Yeah, I also raise the BS flag when trying to judge difficulty of schedule this time of year. Heck, I won't even put much emphasis on it come next August. Things are relative in this league, and perception is always changing.

As for expectations, without a doubt I 'expect' this team to make improvement next year. And by that I mean ultimately advancing farther in the playoffs.

i think so. one big reason is, it starts in the division. i have no reason to believe that philly nor washington will bypass us next year. we should be able to get at least 3 wins out of those games. but we need to figure out how to beat the giants. you win 4 or 5 of those divisional games, and you are in a good position to reach your goals. we saw how important the bye week can be, so it is imperative to win your division and get the one or two seed.

i think there is a lot to be said for learning how to win in this league. pretty much every player and coach on the Dallas sideline finally figured out how to win a playoff game. of course, that guarantees nothing, but to me, gaining that experience is priceless.

certainly there is much more to it than that, but bearing these basic elements in mind, I think raising the bar for next year is within reason.

Home Games......We will be favored to win all but the Saints game, 7-1

Road Games.......I think we can finish .500 on the road, 4-4

That makes us 11-5 again, and probably one of the top 3 or 4 teams in NFC.

Hey, this is uncalled for buddy. I know we are all still upset and not in the best mood right now, but you need to ****ing chill out.

You know, if this forum or if the team losing is going to make you this upset, maybe you need to take a break for a while now that the season is over.

The bottom line is, we NEED to get a first round BYE, because I don't think this team is capable of winning two road playoff games.

This team should be better overall next year but the OL will probably be worse unless significant rebuilding is undertaken. A serious injection of youth and athleticism is required for this group as a whole. Sometimes you just have to go with the younger but slightly worse player knowing that by the end of the year the team will be better off for it.

I see 5 positions we need to change:

LT: Free should start
RT: A FA or draft pick should start
LG: Brewster, FA or draft pick should start
ILB: Should be draft pick starting at one of the spots
WR: Ogletree or draft pick should be starting

Whether the FO can make these changes and find replacements in FA or draft will determine how much better we are. Fundamentally, if you are standing still in this league you are probably regressing (exception players in years 1-3 should just naturally improve due to experience).

I dont think Colombo needs replacing. He was clearly playing hurt against the Vikes and it showed, however when Colombo is healthy he is one of the best RTs in the league.

I keep Colombo at RT and move Free to LT.

Agreed, we must have either the 1st or 2nd seed if we plan on making a deep playoff run. I just dont belive this team can win 2 road games in the playoffs and the odds of winning just 1 are not that great either.

We were fortunate to be healthy - that's it. That can't be controlled, but conditioning may have helped a bit. Maybe. Austin, Romo, Free, Spencer, Jenkins and others developed and played well. Where's the luck in that? We signed/drafted those guys and our coaches developed them. Luck would be a fluke bounce or call, or maybe a bunch of teams collapsing at the end of the year as we backed into the playoffs. Dallas EARNED what it accomplished this year.

We're all pissed and disappointed, but don't minimize all the good things by chalking it up to "luck". Just because something isn't a "certainty", doesn't mean it's luck when it occurs.

Tantrum throwing fans like yourself make ME "want to vomit".

I think we have a good core of players to go even deeper into the playoffs next year, but there's some definite needs we must address to do so. It starts with the OL which has been a problem for a while. Most of us remember how the 2007 season ended--the loss to the Giants in the playoffs. A major problem, among others, was the poor play of our OL in the 2nd half. The Cowboys stood pat & we just paid for it on Sunday against the Vikings.

Believe the Cowboys are allowed to sign 1 FA to more then a $4M contract & I'd spend that money an OT with Free hopefully beating out the other OT. We also need to seriously address the OL problem in the early rounds. Gurode needs to be challenged as does Kosier. Exept for Free, it doesn't look/sound like we have much quality depth behind anybody else. I'm tired of Jerry Jones not wanting to draft the OL early; he holds the same view about WR. Maybe it's time for Jerry to add someone to the scouting department who know how to draft OL & WR cause a bunch of teams sure do well--including the Cards, Packers, etc.

Depends on what "changes" we make in the Offseason.

If we roll into 2010 with the same Offensive Line and Jason Garrett doesn't learn from his mistakes, then we will probably get similar results.

Like many have stated, the problem with this team is not talent and when this is the case, it is a lot harder to fix.

Besides, I have been told by some members of this forum and guys like Keith Brooking that past Seasons don't matter.

I think there are allot of good things to build off of for next season. There are still areas we need to improve on areas we can upgrade but yes my expectation for this team is high. Highly disappointed we lost but not about to let the loss take away from hope I have for the future of this team moving forward. For those who allow their emotions to get the better of them they see no hope that is fine I'm tired of wasting time on them.
