I'll be there 7/24-7/29. This will be my 1st time seeing the Opening Ceremonies (cheerleaders) as it is usually on a weekend. I'm always up for someone buying me a beer....

I usually try to make it out the first day of padded practices. That's when guys are itching to hit something. When they announce that, I'll make my plans to go that day since I'm only about an hour and a half out.

I'll be going on the VIP list when they get back to Frisco. They'll be having 6 (I believe) practices there.

Im going from 7/24-7/27. Life long California resident but have never been able to go so I'm pretty pumped! Been a Cowboys fan since I was 5 so 45 years and counting. The hotels in Oxnard are charging double and triple the normal rates for training camp, insane. I found a nice Holiday inn Express in Port Hueneme, which is 5 minutes from the beach and 10 minutes from oxnard. Total cost for 3 nights is $450. You can also still find pretty good rates in Ventura which is about 10-15 minutes north of Oxnard and other areas that are a short drive. I'm taking my father in law with me but if anyone that will be there on those dates wants to grab a beer let me know, first one is one me. Go Cowboys.

Training camp is phenomenal.

First thing you'll notice - the weather is perfect, low 70's no humidity - every single day.

Seeing the NFL up close is an eye opener. You will not believe the speed of the game and the size of the player when you're literally a few yards away from them.

Get ready to hear all the swear words - both player to player and coach to player - the violence and competition is real and part of the deal.

They will have trailers set up with everything from Super Bowl trophies to the newest hats and shirts, it's literally a Jerry world carnival atmoshpere.

You 'll see all the media guys walking around from Mickey to Broaddus. We had a half hour talk one day with Dale Hanson.

You'll most likely see stars and ex players there. Denzel goes every year, Rob Lowe, etc. Troy will be there at some point. You just never know.

There's a Chili's just an exit down from the 101 (ten minutes from camp) and we've seen players in there after practice. Just be cool though, they are trying to eat dinner and get away. Not saying they won't sign an autograph or take a picture but be polite.

You will be amazed at the Cowboy fans from all over the country, Canada, Mexico. The parking lot is filled with out of state plates and some of them have very clever Cowboy references.

What you should do if possible is schedule a mid-week camp day and then go to the Rams game at the Coliseum so you can get both a practice and a pre-season game.

Have fun and for anybody who has never made it - camp really is awesome.

i stayed at the crowne plaza ventura beach, ok hotel, it was on the beach at least. used points from signing up for an ihg credit card, since points don't seem to vary with events.
-be aware though, the amtrak train goes right by it.

theres also a four points and other chains nearby, if you have points from other chains.
flew into santa barbara, which was a nice city.

personally, it's a great place for a vacation but i prefer san antonio with the alamodome, if i was just interested in cowboys, the elevated seating was easier to check out what was going on to my untrained eye.

Anyone going to Oxnard or have you ever been? thinking hard about attending training camp. Isnt this the last year at Oxnard? Any thing you share would be appreciated. Where to stay, how to ascertain schedule, how close to the beach,, etc etc.

getting older-- on my bucket list
Do it! I went to everyone they had in Austin and San Antonio. Had a blast every time. Always felt like a kid again.

I live in San Diego so I contemplate making the trip every year.

Will probably make it up this year. If I see a Switzer jersey I'll know it's @Irvin88_4life
