Anyone just watch the men's swimming relay?

The closest thing to it was the last womens relay race in 76. The east germans had totally dominated (and as was suspected at the time and later proven, doped up to the gills) and the US women managed to beat them.

I loved it, France was the heavy favorite and was trash talking against the US and then to watch our guys go out and take it from the French was sweet. Great going Team USA

Why does everyone hate France THIS much?

The guy who talked smack was a jerk, but seriously, is this much hatred for a country healthy?

I did last night. I could not believe the anchor leg caught that guy with the lead he had. Absolutely one of the most exciting swim races I have ever seen.

It reminded me of 1988 when Matt Biondi was supposed to win the 200m Free and was way ahead but forgot about Duncan Armstrong in lane 2.

I don't know if the NBC analyst gave his view as to why the French choked, but on CBC up here the analysts stated it was because for some stupid reason, the French guy went over to the lane marker and allowed the American basically to draft off him.

It was a remarkable comeback for sure.

That is pretty much what Lezak(the U.S. anchor) said after the race. He got to ride the wave for a majority of the race conserving energy until the final sprint.

What I find funniest of all the coverage both in the US and Canada about the race is that everyone is focussing on Phelps when in reality his swim in the race was pretty pitiful, he was fourth after his leg.

I thought they said that he set a American record with his leg of the race only to be broken by the anchor leg. It was just a very fast race by all of the teams.

i believe Phelps was 2nd after his leg (behind Australia).

man, Bernard (the French anchor) should have learned from Patrick Crayton.

The third American swimmer was the worst, he was soundly beaten by the French 3rd leg. I thought the US was fourth after one leg but you are probably right. I was watching the Canadian team more at that point of the race.

But as a group our guys were the best and have the gold to prove it.

That WAS amazing, and fitting in this year of sports anomalies.

Between the giants playoff/superbowl run, to Tiger's US Open win, to the spectacle of China's opening ceremonies and Phelps' domination so-far, this has been a great year to have HD!

I don't know if winning the Gold proves you are the best other than the best on that day. If winning proves you are the best, then that means the Giants were the best football team in 2007 and I doubt more than a few would agree with that statement.

The French choked, the Americans did what they had to win, that is what is great about the Olympics. Any given day.

The French choked,

Hardly. Being chased down inside of 25 meters, with nearly 3/4 a body length lead, was hardly "choking", as it was just pure out matched athletically.

And yes. Despite whatever excuse you'd like to make for Dallas' failure at home, the giants WERE the better team.

Their wins on the road, coupled with their SB upset of "the team of the decade", prove that, painful as it may be to admit.

Besting an existing World Record by 3.91 seconds isn't choking. They kicked rear end, one guy had to turn in the best 50 Meter swim of all time to beat them.

Benard did choke mentally.

No reason should he have been hugging the lane allowing the US anchor to ride his wave. it was a terrible mental mistake.

If you win 9 of 10 the but the one you lose is for all the marbles, just who is really "better"?
