I was always a fan Terrance Newman when he played for Dallas. I was sad to see him go. Anybody else regret us letting him go? He seems to be doing decent in Cinci and is having a great preseason so far.

In retrospect, it turns out he still had quite a bit left in his tank.

A wise lesson for all of us not to prematurely declare a player's demise.

No. It was time. Newman has been decent in cincy but the bengals also happen to have one of the better front 7s in the entire NFL, along with good safety play. If Newman was in Dallas behind this D line and LB corps we would be asking why he is still here.

No reason to lash. Newman was probably our best CB since Sanders but it was time to depart ways. I hope he continues on for a few more years and he was not a disappointment while in Dallas, he was a solid corner for us for many years.

So kind of like Ware. Good player while he was here, but injuries and slacking play down the line just did them in. To much money to keep them around. Makes since. I'm glad to see him having a good career in Cincy and hope the same for Ware in Denver.

I wish Mo could be as good as Newman was. It would be a big improvement. Newman never lived up to his draft pick but at least he was a good player for us for several years.

More like Newman is. That would be an improvement.

It is also a little interesting that Newman suddenly can play in exhibitions now and never did as a Cowboy.

I posted it in the Cincy game thread. Looked at game books on NFL.com.

He hasn't been on the DNP list in the preseason for Cincy since he (hmmm) got there. He's played in every game thus far, including every finale.

In his last 3 years in Dallas he was DNP a total of 7 times. Missed all of 2011, and didn't play in a single preseason finale over that span.

His targets are about the same for the span of 2010 to 2011 and 2012 to 2013.

His numbers are better in almost every area (can't think of one that's wasn't other than INTs) for his time in Cincy.

Better completion %, lower YPA, lower YPC, fewer TDs, fewer yards, fewer YAC.

I don't think there's any question that it makes a big difference to any DB when he's playing within a better defense.
Perhaps Cincy's training regimen is more agreeable to Newman as well. Whatever it is, it seems to agree with him.
Also, Dallas' read and react style of defensive line play always seemed to take extra time generating a pass rush.
It became necessary, as a consequence to that, to allow anywhere from 8 to 10 yards of cushion to compensate.
Opposing receivers would routinely either take the short, allowable gain or blow by unexpectedly -- disadvantage.

Awww geez....

I knew this thread was coming all because he had a pick 6 in a Pre Season game from Carson Palmer.

Mehhhh and spare me as the guy was a lost cause for us doing nothing, and besides a few decent plays for Cinci he has not set the world on fire in their system. He plays 10 yds from his opponent and always gives up the short yardage completions that kill you. If you ever need a 3rd and 4 target whoever Newman is on as it is a guaranteed completion.

The guy is no good and relies on QB mistakes to make a play like an over throw or a tipped ball. Never does he make his own play or will become a disruptive player.

Cinci can have him.

It's no longer acceptable to be injured. So he isn't.

Amazing how that works.

In todays game Floyd killed him when he was in there and only Palmers incompetence saved Newman which led to the pick 6 on an awful pass and twice Palmer missed/over threw a wide open Floyd after he easily beat Newman while coming of a groin injury.....

On Arizona's first possession, Carson Palmer went deep to Floyd on back-to-back plays, both of which should have resulted in a touchdown, but the duo could not connect. Floyd showed off his great speed on the first long throw, easily beating cornerback Terrance Newman. Even though Floyd was unable to come down with either long pass, he did not appear to be effected by his groin injury.

Straight from ESPN's fantasy breakdown.

Lets not bash our own franchise for letting this guy go and he had enough chances and time with us.

Newman was one of my favorite players while in Dallas. That said, he looked bad in coverage against the Cardinals and his pick 6 was a bit of a fluke because Palmer threw it right to him when Fitzgerald broke his pattern off and went deep. Had Palmer been on the same page with Fitz, they would've burned Newman deep again.

I remember when Newman was drafted by the Cowboys, there was a poster who wanted Suggs and bitterly complained about it. I personally never had anything against Newman, but the Cowboys should have definitely drafted Suggs.

To that poster that who wanted Suggs over Newman, (you know who you are) you were totally correct!!

I never told him, but if he is reading this I apologize.
